Dr. Nauta is a very understanding and helpful doctor; I am very lucky to have found him!

First visit waiting time was not too bad. Doctor seemed to be engaged and ordered tests, PT and follow up. Follow up appointment set out for a month from 1st appt. Received called that appt changed and now 2 mos. from initial visit.2nd appt, Advised lots of pain and since did not scream when touched he reported I was free of pain. This was continued medical care yet doctor stated on report that it was a second opinion. My original neurosurgeon is fantastic, he is located out of state and it was financially difficult to travel to see him. I advised Dr. Nauta of this but he still went on the premise he was my second opinion. PT was supposed to be ordered after 1st appt. I was not made aware of this order. When asked how PT went I looked at him perplexed and the nurse said the receptionist dropped the ball. Second appt I waited for 1 hour in the exam room, when doctor entered he was not present mentally and I felt I had waited for 2 mos for nothing. He advised he did not want to operate,… which I was alright with since I was not feeling he was the right person for me anyway. He suggested medications that have side effects from suicide to cancer. He then suggested a regime of meds that I am not able to take. I advised him of the side effects and that nothing he offered for meds were an option due to the side effects. I advised him eleviating pain in exchange for major side effects was not an option,This also solidified me not wanting him to operate on me when he hadn't even looked at my chart to see I could not take them. He answered his phone during the 30 minutes ( I am being generous) which also distracted him from an appt that was not inexpensive. When I asked for a copy of the appointments, I was looked at like I had two heads. Really!? The nurse asked when follow up appt would be he used an a series of letters instead of just saying no further appt. When dealing with a neurosurgeon it is very difficult to find a good one, get a 2nd and even 3rd opinion. It is your health and if your doctor doesn't listen or dismissed your complaints, move on....would not recommend...there are other neurosurgeons in the same building. Time for this neuro to retire!?
