Dr. Jan Peter Dank, MD

My husband saw Dr. Dank first in 2017, that one turned out okay but on April 1, 2021, he saw Dr. Dank again for a black line on the skin partly under his pointer finger's nail bed and extending just a bit above the nailbed. Dr. Dank's summery was " Nail discoloration can be due to infection (green nail syndrome, onychomycosis), cyanosis, pulmonary disease (yellow nail syndrome) or a medication." And to contact the office if: "Nail Discoloration does not improve or worsens despite treatment." None of the images of all the things he said it could be even looked like it. I decided to get a second opinion and I am so glad I did. In May, the other dermatologist took one look and did a shave biopsy. The results were melanoma in situ. My husband was referred to the UWMC and by the end of August of 2021, his fingertip to the second knuckle had been removed. We were told that had we gotten it before it had spread. If we had just watched and waited like Dr. Dank advised things could have… gone a lot worse. It would have spread.

Dr. Dank is the best. Thorough, very knowledgable, experienced and explains everything very carefully. He discovered a cancer, and has taken care of me for many years for all my dermatology issues. Personable, professional. The entire team is superb, responsive, caring and professional.

To begin he was pushy, fast and rude. I kept asking about a spot on my face and he kept telling me it was noting and I would need to pay to have it removed. Every time I asked about it I was charged $50.00. The billing system was confusing. I had minor surgery to remove a squamos cell carcinoma. That went badly. Then I had another squamos cell carcinoma. I chose radiation rather than going through an additional surgery with him. I changed doctors and asked about the spot on my face. My new doctor looked carefully at it and was concerned. It was a melanoma the size of a quarter. If Dr Dank has burned it off I would probably be dead today. I do not recommend him!

Thinks very highly of himself and treated my 88 yr old Dad horrible. Yelled at him and got mad because he was not undressed when he came in. The nurses never told him to take his clothes off. I guess he thinks he is GOD. Looking for another dermatologist. Very sad when a doctor treats some one older like this especially since my Dad is a Veteran.

Have had good on time appointments with Dr. Dank. He is very knowledgeable, thorough in checking for skin cancer. Would highly recommend him.

I'm new to the area and chose Dr. Dank for my yearly skin cancer checks. Very satisfied with the thoroughness of the exam and quality of treatment and advice. I especially liked that I was offered the option of having in-office treatment during my scheduled appointment time on that same day, rather than having to come back for a separate visit.

I had a very serious case of skin cancer years ago. The first time I saw Dr. Dank I asked his assistant if he had reviewed my medical file from my prior dermatologist that had been provided to him. She said no. I told I thought he should review my file before he examined me. When Dr. Dank came in he was angry telling me he did not need to review my file first and he was not going to until later. He then said do you want to have the exam or not. I was shocked at his arrogance and never went to him again.

I was rushed to the ER days after being treated by him for alopecia. He would not take responsibility for what he did and now I have extensive hospital bills to remind me of this awful experience.

I have gone to Dr Dank several times over the years. Followup was for melanoma skin cancer. He does not have the best bedside manner. He was professional, knew what he was doing and was able to answer my questions. What impressed me the most was on one visit when I heard him (outside the door of the exam room) explaining to a new hire the importance of me being there, that I was a melanoma survivor and that he was there to make sure that there were no "spots" that might indicate the melanoma had come back. I was impressed that he took the time to explain to her my case before they entered the room.

Dr. Dank was professional and very helpful with my mother-in-law; he took the time to explain her condition and all the options for treatment; he is very comprehensive in the way her practices medicine. I would recommend him for any skin cancer concerns.
