Dr. Jay Leonard Karpen, MD

I was a patient of Dr. Karpens for six years. And then he disappeared. We were giving no explanation. Has anyone found a New pain management doctor? I'm in severe pain. Need help

The HAG person (who got some brown nosed brownie points) at Doctor Karpens office who caused the last doctor who helped us should be shot. All of you providers who treat us badly because we hurt and down doctors like him can all go to jump in the fire pit below (I can not curse). If you can not figure out the people like me who are in serious pain from the drug addicts that ruined it for the honest, then you do not deserve to be a doctor.

dr. karpen goodness sakes I so miss you!!!! darn the stupid people that ever got rd of you, and I am sorry to say I think it was a set up.... you did me wonders, now this crazy woman we have is a nut case, thinks she is never wrong!!!!!!! Help come back......

Dr Karpen was one of the best pain management Dr that I have seen. I have seen him since I was first diagnosed with RSD.

Wonderful doctor! I have seen him for 20 years now, which also means I have followed him from office to office and town to town.

Best doctor I had

One of kind pain doctor the best. Where do we all go now that he is gone?Over the years he tried to add new doctors but none of them seemed to work out, he may have finally had to partner with Allegheny Health Network, Medicare required everything be done on computers, Dr. Karpen did things the old fashion way on paper. He worked hard and saw us all, he needed help, I believe he partnered with Allegheny Health Network believing they would send him a Nurse Practioner to help see patients. Instead they took over the practice and told him to go. I heard they waited in the parking lot one day for him and never let him in the building. Once they took the practice over they fired him. Now we know Allegheny Health is as bad as UPMC for these kind of dirty tricks. Wait until you see the female doctor they replaced him with Lisa Weidner, she has the worse bedside manner and is going to tell you that you do not need pain medication. As far as I can tell they just hired her, she may have worked… for UPMC prior to this. There are very few patients in the waiting room now. This new female doctor Lisa Weidner is nasty and painful to look at. Condescending towards you for taking pain medications. It is painful to see this woman. Dr. Karpen open back up and forget these big hospital insurance people and have a private pay office, we will come back to see you. . The follow up? The question is what is the follow up for us all the former patients? The female doctor they have that took his place is the exact opposite of him. Condescending towards you and makes little innuendo about you taking "Narcotics". This is the sad reality for us who take these pain medication exactly as ordered, we are all victims along with Dr. Karpen , who do we see now. I am sure Allegheny Network labeled all of his patients as trouble. I suspect they will slowly drive out the remaining McMurray office patients and eventually close that office. I know you are not good at computers Dr.Karpen but if you ever read this we miss you and wish you the best.

I honestly think dr karpen is the best.it is ashame that he retired and now his practice is going to fall apart

My story is like so many others. I was referred to Dr Karpen by my son's Dr. I had given up on shots and medication (They didn't work) All I wanted was sleeping pills to get 1 night sleep,Instead my son's Dr referred me to Dr Karpen. I told Dr K all the shots I had in the past only numbed my skin but the pain remained and could I just get something to sleep. My back was so bad I walked holding onto the walls, it was so bad that someone just touching the skin on my back made me scream. I finally gave in and let him give me shots 3 on each side of my spine. I couldn't believe it, they worked. That was 15 years ago. I told him I was his groupie because I followed him where ever he moved. He gave me my life back. And it's true about his strict rules on testing. He didn't mess around. At the same time he never made you ashamed that you needed pain medicine. (Some Drs or staff make you feel like you are a junkie). He truly had compassion and understood. Always treated me with… respect. I cry most days now because I'm so afraid to go back to where I was before that 1st visit, waiting for disability to arrive. I wish I could find where he went. He would never have just abandoned his patients. I found out when I showed up for my appointment and was told..UMMM Dr Karpen isn't here anymore. So now I'm just Soooo Sad and scared

When I ended up at Dr. Karpen' s office, I had given up any hope I would ever feel any relief from the unrelenting pain I was suffering from. The first pain management doctor I went to was unprofessional and verbally abusive. I swore I would never see another. After a year of my life wasting away, not being able to function in everyday life, I was referred to the Centre of Pain relief. From the moment I walked through the doors I was treated with respect. I was never promised to be pain free, but with a lot of trial and error I have spent the last few years living a somewhat normal life. There was nothing I couldn't talk to dr. Karpen about, never lived in fear of him not believing me or made to feel the pain was all psychological. His leaving his practice so suddenly is a great loss to so many who ended up, I am sure as I did, with no one to listen and no where left to go. I wish I would have had the opportunity to thank him. I don't think any of his patients will ever find a doctor… quite like him. I wish him and his family the best and hope he is happy. He deserves it after all he has done for so many of us that other doctors just slammed the door on out of ignorance or fear. Thank you Dr. Karpen whatever your next venture may be!
