Dr Blavias is the BEST there is in Uroligy. After seeing numerous doctors for my son, Dr Blavias was concerned, compassionate and knowledgeable in every aspect. He reconstructed my sons small bladder and made it to a normal size. It was a 9 hour surgery and he saved my sons life. My son can urinate without a catheter and has his whole life now thanks to this amazing special doctor.

Dr. Blaivas is as close to a medical miracle worker as I have ever seen. I had a severe bladder problem (massive diverticuli) that two top NYC urologists told me was unfixable even with surgery and that I would have to catheterize myself 4 times a day for life. Dr. Blaivas disagreed and told me that with surgery he would be able to restore me to normal function — and he did. Now it is as if the problem never happened. Also, he spends as much time with each patient as he and the patient need. There is never a rush. And he cares. He called and texted me regularly after my operation to see how I was doing. And when I needed him he would respond promptly. Dr. Blaivas does not accept insurance. But you get what you pay for and he gave me my life back when all of the other urologists had given up on me.

My diagnosis five years ago was vaginal prolapse. The first doctor I saw recommended a Robotic Sacral Colpopexy, a Monarc Transobturator Sling, and a Bilateral Salpingo-oophorectomy. I was also told I would not be able to return to work for 2-4 weeks after surgery. Dr. Blaivas recommended a pessary. I was fitted and went back to work that afternoon. I remove the pessary every night and insert it every morning, and my problem has been solved! I very much appreciate the thoughtful, conservative, non-invasive treatment I received from Dr. Blaivas.

I was very fortunate to have Dr Blaivas as my urologist. It was in the late 80's and the standard procedure for people with spinal injuries was to test your bladder using static methods. Dr Blaivas pioneered a dynamic method, which he coined Urodynamics (now used by all competent urologist today), which almost certainly saved me from long term kidney damage. His method was the only one that saw there was a problem. Today, I have a healthy urological system because of Dr. Blaivas and I am grateful. Years later I did bladder enlargement surgery with Dr. Blaivas. It is a procedure I would do again in a heartbeat because of the resulting quality of life improvements. Some doctors today are preferring to treat neurogenic bladders with medication rather than surgery. As someone who was initially treated with medication and later had the surgery, it was like getting your life back. The side effects from the meds come on slowly and you don't realize how bad things are. The surgery… took about three weeks to fully recover from (prolonged due to the meds that had now stopped). Later, I was able to do wheelchair marathons and get my masters degree, something I know with certainty would not have happened without the surgery. Dr. Blaivas was always available to talk and I never felt rushed, he is a very nice man.
