Dr. Joseph A Cuteri, MD

I was referred to Dr. Cuteri by my previous ob, who would not continue seeing me due to my high risk pregnancy. I had an aversion to gynecologists and it had taken awhile for me to find my previous ob and I liked him and trusted his recommendation. Dr Cuteri and his office immediately put meat ease with both their professionalism and my first pregnancy.

This doctor didn’t listen to my concerns for months leading up to the delivery, brushed off my questions, didn’t lay out any options for me or explain risks/benefits of ANYTHING, performed an episiotomy without consent, treated me like a number, kept me in the dark, shoved his big, fat hand up me so hard and fast that I immediately screamed in pain, and left horrendous memories of feeling mistreated and violated every single time I try to remember my son’s birth as a special day. This man left behind invasive, angry, sad feelings where there should only be beautiful ones when I think of the day I met my baby. Unacceptable.

While giving birth to my first daughter dr cuteri went to give me an episiotomy. I had only been pushing 30 min and my daughters heart rate was fine. When I asked why he needed to do an episiotomy he said “if you ever want to pee normally again you need one”. I now know he was just rushing things. I told him my epidural was not working fully on my right side and asked for local Anesthesia. He insisted i only felt pressure. When he cut I almost blacked out from the pain. I sobbed and as he started to stitch me up he said “oh you can feel that?” And THEN have me local anesthesia. He also for some reason felt the need to tell me that “some women aren’t made to have babis and I’m lucky my daughter was only 6 lbs or I’d be left with one hole instead of two”. It was all so traumatic I developed vaginismus and had to do a year and a half of physical therapy. During doctors visits leading up to the birth he was either super happy and in a great mood or incredibly gruf and acted annoyed any… time I had questions. I never knew what to expect. If you have any other options at all do not use him as your doctor.

He seemed very annoyed when I asked questions and did not explain anything he was doing during exams. He was very rough and it was one of the worst experiences I have had with a doctor. The office staff are amazing though!

Dr. Cuteri was highly recommended to me. I had to leave a wonderful doctor because she did not participate at Bridgeport Hospital so I went to him. It was the WORST experience of my life. He made me miserable throughout my pregnancy, was rude, rough, and spoke badly about me behind closed doors. Lucky for me the exam room walls in his Trumbull office were thin and I could hear every word! I cried everytime I came home from an appointment with him. April, however, is fabulous and his office staff are wonderful. I honestly have no idea why people like him and I will NEVER use or recommend him to anyone.

I was shocked to see some of the positive comments about Dr. Cuteri being compassionate and attentive. He showed no interest in me as a person at all, spent no time with me during my labor except the hurried checks on my progress every few hours, was sarcastic in answering questions (when he gave me even 30 seconds to ask questions), and didn't communicate any information. He was very rough and never explained what he was doing - before, during, or after doing it. I would not recommend him, though his office staff and partners (April and Dr. Bruce) are wonderful.

I felt rushed. The staff was pleasant but I did not feel that the doctor understood my concerns.

They just don't come any better than Dr. Cuteri. He's kind, caring and competent. His staff is pleasant and accomodating.
