Dr. Joseph Raymond Obrien, MD

No patient education, I didn't even know the name of the condition that brought me to the hospital, then in a non-emergency setting performed a procedure much different than I'd been advised. Ignored complications that resulted in the need for more procedures. 2 1/2 years later I'm still in pain. Never once called, emailed, or followed up. Left me in the care of an incompetent PA who under his supervision, lied on hospital records. Markets fusions as if they were tooth fillings and ignores patient concerns. Makes you wait upwards towards 45 minutes while you pay for parking. Most arrogant and uncaring doctor I've ever had. My vet does better follow up than this guy. There are lots of competent orthopedic surgeons in the DMV, but he enjoys a reputation he doesn't deserve. Recently performed surgery on a friend of mine--who is still in pain.

Dr O’Brien have done an outstanding job on my back. He is very caring and great beside manors. It is clear that his patients well-being is is too priority.

I am so lucky to have found him. Pain gone and living life again. Thank you.

Dr OBrien is amazing. I had neck surgery with another doctor (different practice) who blotched my surgery and Dr OBrien came up with a game plan to do something different and made me 100% better. No more pain. His staff is amazing and would highly recommend anyone to him.

I had an excellent experience today with Chase, Dr. I’Brien’s assistant, and Dr. O’Brien himself. He spent a good amount of time with me, explained my situation clearly, went over my scans…and was welcoming and warm to boot. In addition, he went over my multiple issues that went well beyond my spine, which is his specialty, and in doing so gave me a great deal of encouragement. One of my best medical experiences.

I was referred to Dr.O’brien from a couple friends who wanted me to consider a second spine surgery to help alleviate terrible, continual pain resulting from a botched fusion surgery by Dr.Ira Fisch. Dr.O’Brien was professional, knowledgeable and kind and truly instilled my confidence in him. I’m having the surgery next month.

Dr. O'Brien recently performed my third spine surgery. I had my 6 week visit with him today. The surgery was successful and I am recovering well. In my assessment, he is a top notch spine surgeon I would highly recommend. He is extremely pleasant to talk to, with great bed-side manners, and very well versed in his expertise!

I have had 3 successful surgeries done by Dr OBrien. I refuse to go to anyone else. I love his bedside manner, his knowledge is impeccable and so friendly. I have a great friendship of what I feel anyway with him. I have scoliosis and it has been a ride! Twice now he has had some surprise with my surgery and figured out what needed to be done to fix me. Yay I think it may be over with finally!!!! Even though I’m now 90 something fused I owe Dr OBrien a lot for keeping my life going! Thank you so much buddy!!!

Dr. O'Brien is an expert surgeon but beyond that, he cares about his patients. He never rushes his consultations but listens and decides how best to proceed after considering all options. The office staff is polite, friendly, and effective. Good environment.

As a physician I was careful about selecting the best surgeon to address my lumbar issues of severe and debilitating spinal and foraminal stenosis. Dr O’Brien did an excellent job of relieving my symptoms and returning me to full activity. I cannot thank him enough.

Dr. O’Brien has been my spine surgeon for both my neck and back. I have scoliosis and I was a gymnast and cheerleader when I was much younger! Unfortunately, my spine did not hold up too well as I got older. I was an avid weekend warrior with my Bikram yoga, and was committed to staying fit. Despite those things, my scoliosis got worse, and I had to face surgery. Dr. O’Brien has been with me along the way, and he has performed both cervical and lumbar surgeries. I trust Dr. O’Brien and his staff to provide the care and consideration that any patient would want!

Dr. O’Brien was very good at communicating what was going on with my sciatica. The surgery he performed went very well and cured my problem. I wouldn’t hesitate to call on him if the need ever arises.

I don't love the reason to go see him BUT he is a great surgeon and fun to talk to.

After a neck injury, I saw a spine surgeon who said that I had fractured my neck and recommended that I wear a neck brace for four weeks; after four weeks, I was told that my neck didn’t heal, and I needed neck surgery. I went to Dr. O’Brien for a second opinion. After running some x-rays Dr O’Brien gave me an assertive diagnosis that my neck was healing, and I did not need any surgery. He asked me to see him again to check on my progress. After being in his care, I am now free of pain. Dr. O’Brien just did a follow up x-ray and it showed that I am now completely healed. Dr.O’Brien is a highly skilled and efficient physician. In addition, he is very personable and easy to talk to. In my view, he is a 10!
