Dr. Joseph Atkins Pettus IV, MD

Dr. Pettus saved my life! I was diagnosed with prostate cancer in June 2015. At that time I was with another physician who was extremely rude with absolutely no bedside manner. Then I was recommended to see Dr. Joseph Pettus, and it was the best recommendation I have ever received! He gave me all information about the cancer and kept my wife and I upbeat and cheerful. It's now four years that I've been in remission, and I have Dr. Pettus to thank!

About a month ago I saw Dr Pettus’ Physician Assistant for a bladder infection. He was very rude to me and told me I did not have a bladder infection and sent me back to my primary care doctor. My primary care doctor sent me to a gynecologist who did the test and told me I had a bladder infection, changed my medication for overly active bladder to something that worked and gave me an antibiotic. I complained to Dr Pettus’ office manager who was very rude and dismissive. When I went to Dr Pettus yesterday to get scan results he told me that the office manager said that I have complained about Bennett, the PA , on multiple occasions and discredited me. The doctor said he wasn’t the right doctor for me and I have to wonder why he did not tell me this over 10 years ago when I saw him for the first time. Long story short the office manager completely lied to Dr Pettus about me and what happened. She was absolutely protecting the PA and threw me under the bus. Dr Pettus even told me… that he didn’t even want to come in my exam room and talk to me because he knew that I would bring up the PA problem. This was the first and only time I had complained about anything to Dr Pettice and my advise is that if you are wanting to be mistreated, go to Dr Pettice. If you want the correct diagnosis then choose another urologist. Their behavior was and is unconscionable

Love Dr Pettus but his staff is a different story. Had an appointment at the Huntsville location today. About one hour before my appointment I get a call stating that they dont have any kits at that location and that I can reschedule or go to the Madison location. Getting a call one hour before my scheduled appointment is cutting it way too close. Anyway, I choose to go to Madison. Got there and told the receptionist the above and she looked confused and told me they dont have any kits. I am still waiting to be seen. Staff needs some work.

I had read at least one horrible review before I went to see Dr. Pettus. I had also read many glowing reviews. I had been referred to him by my very competent highly recommended yet unapproachable, money loving and arrogant general surgeon who has lack of bedside manner and impatience with explaining anything to we ignorant yet reasonably intelligent laymen. Needless to say I was going to him with some trepidation considering the source of the referral. But, I found him to be a man of genuine concern, easy manner,and uncondescending. Though surgery was a justifiable option, he said if it were him in my position, he wouldn’t have it done unless it became more of a problem.

Takes patient's opinion into consideration after explaining options. Very comfortable talking to about issues. Very high opinion of Dr. Pettus.

Doc Pettis gave me a prescription which had to be faxed back to insurance company for approval. I have called numerous times and a week later still nothing and have not heard from them. Don't give a crap and not enough help. I will take my business elsewhere.

Dr.Petus is just the best Doctor I've ever been to .He is easy to get along with and not at all condensending or arrogant like many Doctors are.He is brilliant and human.I believe it is because of Dr. Petus that I am alive.Bless you and yours sir.Also everyone at his office is very nice.Go Wake Forest !!
