Dr. Joy McElroy

We love Dr. McElroy and Brenda Kemp! For years my wife and I have driven from 78 miles away twice a year for check-ins; occasionally more often if needed. They are most attentive and seem very experienced. All the staff I've met deserve five stars as well.

Love Dr. Joy, she is kind, considerate, helpful and professional. However, she has all new nurses and staff, WHO ARE NOT! They are rude, disrespectful, condescending and unprofessional. It is absolutely horrible having to work with them. Sad, all around, as the Doctor is amazing, but this new staff brings office down. They need to be replaced, don't think retraining will help, just wrong people in wrong jobs.

Dr. McElroy is a very knowledgeable and kind doctor. Highly recommend!!

She wouldn't take my new medical.. Hmsa integration. I use to have Hmsa before, but life is tough. I just dont understand how you put him in your room, then tell him you don't take his medical, and if he continues it'll cost him $170.00. HOW RUDE & UNBECOMING!!!@ When her office e confirmed ihis appt, they never asked or told him anything. How could you single him out and make him feel DIFFERENT.. SHAME ON YOU.....

This office lost my lab work from two previous visits with the APRN who works for Dr. McElroy, so I made an appointment specifically with Dr. McElroy to get things straightened out and my skin issue resolved. The day of my appointment, I was called and asked if I could come in 2 hours and 20 minutes earlier due to a cancellation they had. Even though I live 2 hours from the office, I said I could and arrived 25 minutes early for my 2:10 pm appointment. I sat in the packed, freezing cold waiting room for 55 minutes and was finally led to a patient room at 2:40 pm. The patient room was freezing cold, too with constantly blowing air, so I covered myself with a small blanket while waiting for the doctor to arrive. Finally at 3:10 pm, an entire hour after my appointment time, I went into the hallway to find out if they had forgotten about me. Dr. McElroy then approached the open door to the patient room with her assistant, and immediately confronted me about being in the hallway. As… I began to explain that it had been 4 hours since I left home, that I had yet to eat lunch, and was freezing cold, she asked me to leave her office and refused services. Since I had never met her before, I asked if she was the doctor on my way out. She said she was, but would not introduce herself to someone who spoke to her like that! I never raised my voice to her, nor did I say anything verbally abusive, but she certainly felt she had the right to abuse and dismiss me. I highly recommend avoiding this inconsiderate woman who calls herself a doctor in Kailua-Kona, Hawaii before you end up on the wrong side of her uncaring, arrogant, and abusive attitude like I did.

The doctor/PA would not reveal cost of a liquid nitrogen spray. I learned that my first visit cost over $500 when checking out.

Both the staff and doctor were a complete joke. They fail to realize that the patient comes first and not the zoo like atmosphere that prevails in their office. Remember, customer first.

I came to Dr. McElroy with biopsy results from another doctor. After waiting hours to see her and giving my history to not one of her staff but 3 different people, I was moved from room to room, when the doctor finally came in. She asked me all over again to describe what I had told 3 of her staff members. I mentioned how long I had been waiting and she " lost it". She grabbed my arm and pulled me into her face where she proceeded to grip my arm ( I had NEVER even met her before) and screamed at me , " you're having a bad day?! Maybe this is how you can act in California (where my biopsy results came from) but it doesn't fly here" . I pulled my arm away from her and started to get dressed. I was not going to let her cut me after that inappropriate frightening outburst. She went on, "this isn't working for me, my father just died and my nurse is having issues with her pregnancy, I won't charge you for today..." I couldn't believe it. If you're having a personal meltdown, cancel your… appointments for the remainder of the day. I left the office shaking and in tears and have never gone back. Recently this memory came up when a friend said she and her husband went for a Medicare skin check and she never even had them take their clothes off! Not good!!!

Dr McElroys bedside manner is perfect! She knows exactly what she is doing in her diagnosis and treatment. I had to wait to get an appointment, but well worth the wait. My skin has never been so clear and my rash cleared up within days of taking the medications and using the correct facial products.

Wonderful bedside manner. She diagnosed my psoriasis and gave me the right meds to clear it up.
