A excellent pain management dr. Only reason I had to quit seeing him is he didn't take my insurance

Dr. Judson Sommerville has a bedside manner and car in nature you feel as soon as you enter the room. There is no reason to shake in you shoes or boots and prepare to launch into a 4 page story, terrified that you will be launched put on you bum if you stubble over your words. This man knows pain. This man is a caring and has an intuitive side of him that makes you feel "yes" I am in the right place , talking to the smartest Mann about my pain issues. Dr. Sommerfield not only gives things to stop with pain, this doctor gives vitamins for things such sleep deprivation, weakness in certain parts of the body, and injections only when needed not every visit so he can make his money like so many of the other so called pain doctors down here in the RGV do!! Please if you are experiencing chronic pain, go and see Dr. Sommerfield. you will not be disappointed!

I have suffered with chronic spinal, neck, tailbone pain from a serious car accident, then I developed autoimmune problems. I have seen a long line of medicaid doctors that have lied to me repeatedly, leaving me in more pain. The pain has been so bad for so long that the skin over the painful areas cannot be touched without causing incredible pain! I went to Dr Somerville, with a skeptical mindset and upset that he will not take my insurance. My friend insisted she will pay if I try him. That was the BEST medical decision I have ever made. He educated me about how medicine controls pain, about side effects and helped ME decide the best course of action for my pain! I remained skeptical about increasing my dosage but I listened and listened and made mental notes. Several appointments in, it was clear that everything he said would happen, DID! So I agreed to the extra 25 mg and that was another awesome decision! My pain has been a constant 8 to 10 for several years. 2 days after… I took his advice, MY PAIN LEVEL HAS BEEN BETWEEN A 1 OR 2!!! Amazing!!!!! Additionally he recommended supplements that I wish I had known about years ago! Dr Somerville has helped me in a huge way! I know he is in my corner and he sees me as an individual and treats my pain based on my medical records and tests. I am sure he is the ONLY doctor that has ever looked at my records! I am very impressed with Dr Somerville.

Dr Somerville is caring and comprehensive. Over time more will come of the Medical Board's action on Dr Somerville; but for my care he was among the best. Yes waiting time was on average 4 hours but is the only detractor about his practice, but if I average in all the full year's appoiments on occassion I had 3 hr waits and most waits were less than 3 hrs, so 3 hrs wait time is what I submit. I don't believe I've ever looked at another doctor's face and his eyes with as much trust and honest care returned. The reviews of the Texas Medical board's findings are mostly of a witch hunt nature and the doctors true efforts to provide relief to his patients is without a doubt exceptional. There are two sides to every situation and the unfortunate oversight of Dr Somervilles efforts to help his patients is not accurately recommended by the board, by not allowing his to provide prescriptions at this stage. This will give many pause and concern to know that his practice has been smudged by… the Medical Board but I wouldn't hesitate going back to him for my care, when the witch hunting either vendicates or allows him back to normal medical practice without all the negative stigma.

I met Dr Somerville while looking for a doctor to help me manage my back pain. I have had 2 surgeries and basically was told that I would have to just deal with the pain. Then I found Dr Somerville, he changed my life. He was able to educate me on more effective ways to deal with the on giong pain I had. He is so intelligent and speaks with such a caring voice and always knows just what to say to make you feel like he is there for you. He is the best doctor and I would recommend him to anyone who is in need of a pain management doctor!

Needs improvement in staff courteousy and follow up. Waiting time is too long. Need larger waiting area to accommodate patients waiting time of 2 hours.

I suffered debilitating pain for years after an accident and then surgery which made the problem worse due to hardware failure. Over the years, my oral medications which I took for pain continued to get stronger while my relief from the pain continued to decrease. I came upon Dr. Sommerville by chance while I was away from home and out of State and needed my medications refilled. After 1 visit with Dr. Sommerville, he convinced me that there were better ways of treating my pain. I just needed to give him time to find the best treatment for me! 10 months later, after numerous tests and procedures; I went home! I have now had my Medtronic morphine pump for over 4 years and cannot put into words the difference that it has made in my life! I take only a fraction of the medication that I once did and get much better relief from my pain than I ever did! You will never find a more competent and caring doctor! I cannot thank him and his staff enough! If you are seeking a pain… specialist, I strongly recommend Dr. Sommerville! I stayed 10 months in hotels while 1500 miles away from home and would do it again to get the help that gave me back so much of my life!
