Dr. Marc A Michelsen, DO

I am deeply disappointed with the experience I had with Marc A. Michelsen, D.O. during my recent knee replacement surgery at Lee Health. I felt it was important to share my experience both in this review and in an email to the Lee Health board, as no one should have to go through what I did. I had informed Mr. Michelsen before the surgery that I have a history of acid reflux and have had significant issues with anesthesia during previous procedures. I explicitly mentioned that I do not respond well to Zofran or Reglan and that I would experience severe nausea without Phenergan. Despite my clear and specific instructions, he refused to provide Phenergan and administered Zofran against my wishes. The consequences of this decision were extremely distressing. I spent a full 24 hours post-surgery in severe discomfort and misery, as I continued to vomit due to the Zofran. It was not until I was finally given Phenergan, which promptly alleviated my nausea within 20 minutes, that I found… relief. Shockingly, it was my daughter who had to strongly advocate for me and even raise her voice with the nurses at Lee Health to ensure I received the appropriate medication. Marc A. Michelsen, D.O.'s actions were not only arrogant but also demonstrated a clear lack of concern for my health and well-being. A patient's comfort and safety should be paramount for any medical professional, and his actions failed in this regard. It is my hope that by sharing my experience, the board of Lee Health will take notice and address the shortcomings in patient care and communication that led to my ordeal. No patient should have to endure unnecessary suffering, and medical professionals like Mr. Michelsen should be held accountable for their actions to prevent similar incidents in the future.
