Dr. Mark Christopher Hartley, MD

The first thing that Dr. Hartley did was to complain about how busy they were that day. He seemed stressed. During appointment he spent about 5-10 minutes with me. Was fairly impersonal and did not explain things in depth. He recommended switching from a wheelchair to using crutches and knee brace for my 8 week old broken leg, (and he also sold these devices to me at a rather expensive Mark-Up). But he did not explain why, when, or how to use these assistive devices safely.

He handled my 2nd visit for frozen shoulder very professionally. He made me comfortable while providing a cortisone shot and asked me To do PT and get back for reevaluation in 3 weeks. I will not evaluate the PT schedule because it’s a mess! I did find an outside clinic which will do my PT.

Awesome doc who gives awesome care. Skilled surgeon who also offers and explains all options. Very caring, compassionate, and I wouldn’t hesitate to see him for any further orthopedic care. Highly recommend.

Excellent surgeon

Dr. Hartley came highly recommended for my knee replacement surgery. I felt very confident in Dr. Hartley’s expertise and his well-trained team. I knew what to expect and felt very well-prepared for my surgery.

I am 56 and was in pain for nearly 1 year with a torn meniscus. Dr. Hartley DID NOT push surgery however was honest with the available options. I ended up having surgery last week and I'M SO THANKFUL I did. DO NOT HESITATE to seek out Dr. Hartley.... He's the BEST

Dr Hartley knew exactly what my symptoms were and was able to administer a cortisone shot into bothered, inflamed knee area. I was dancing out the door. May eventually need laparoscopic surgery but for now, am back and functioning! His expertise is awesome

Dr. Hartley is a knowledgeable & compassionate surgeon, but his PA, Mary Carter, hamstrings him. His PA fields pt portal messages for the Dr, but lacks both knowledge & attention to detail; I had an abnormal response to an invasive, in-office procedure, & gave a detailed explanation of the signs & symptoms via portal DM. (I am an experienced surgeon, and therefore am well aware of what constitutes an abnormal response.) While one must anticipate that any invasive procedure has innate risks attached, the clinical staff should address patients’ concerns with diligent attention to symptomatology reported by the patient. Ms. Carter glossed over specific info I’d provided, issued generic advice & told me to return in 1-2 weeks if my concerns didn’t resolve. An abnormal reaction to a procedure should be addressed with a sense of urgency commensurate with the reaction. Ms. Carter’s incompetent knowledge base & laissez faire attitude is cause enough for me to drop OrthoVA & Dr Hartley’s care.
