Dr. Mark Damian Erasmus, MD

Don’t believe it’s just that he has bad bedside manners! Stay away! He left my husband paralyzed from the right arm and then lied about it. He avoided seeing my husband but for a 2 minute appointment after the left him paralyzed or called him to see how he was doing. I cannot describe the pain and anguish he caused us. We still curse him every day because he ruined our lives and was most rude and insensitive pseudo doctor after that. A V O I D him like the plague.

I waited three months, & on the morning of my appointment his office called saying he'd be in surgery so we'd have to reschedule. When I complained because I waited three months AND arranged time off from work the woman said, "Well, if you can be here by 11..." I got in my car & flew down I-25 & was there at 11. The woman at registration didn't even look at me. I sat for an hour & half in the waiting room (the most uncomfortable chairs for people with back issues) the was called into exam room & waited there another half hour. The PA came in with a CD & asked if I brought my MRI discs because the imaging place only sent the xray disc, not the MRI. If they knew they hadn't received all the images why didn't they contact the imaging place before hand? or contact me so that I could have gone there myself to get the discs? Then "Dr." Erasmus brusquely came into the exam room, didn't look at me, didn't introduce himself, didn't shake my hand, didn't sit down, just stood over me saying, "I… can't do anything without the MRI images. Are you here for the TGN?" I said no, that I was being treated by Dr. Jennsen for that issue. "Dr." Erasmus said, "Well, if you decide you want surgery for that I can do that." I wondered why he didn't even know why I was there. I said, "I was told that this was going to be an evaluation about possible back surgery, I'm not here for the TGN." Meanwhile the PA kept saying "They sent the Xrays, I don't know why they didn't send the MRIs." And I kept wondering why they waited until just before my appointment to check my file to see if everything was there & why I was there! "Dr." (I'm using quotes because I doubt he's an actual doctor) Erasmus asked (still without looking at me) where my back pain is. When I told him he said, "Well, I don't do that kind of surgery." I said, "Well, then why was I referred to you? Why didn't anyone notice until now that the MRIs weren't sent? Why did I wait three months to be seen by you?..." And he walked out of the room. The PA said, "I can put in another request for the MRIs & we can reschedule you..." Are you kidding me?! At this point I wouldn't let this guy cut my hair let alone put a scalpel to my back- or my brain! Now I'm back to square one, having to get another referral & wait months to be seen. Only next time I will do a bit of research first. I wish I had for this "doctor"! If you want to be treated like a smear of dog crap on the bottom of his shoe then by all means go to Erasmus & let him cut you open & pull some money out of you. If you want to be treated with dignity then look elsewhere. It took them three months to look at my file to notice that the MRIs hadn't been sent, but I bet they were processing my insurance payment as my blood pressure was being taken!

Dr. Erasmus replaced a disk in L4-L5. My pain was extreme and I had previous surgery by another doctor that failed. (I had several other spine procedures over a period of three years by other surgeons.) I found Dr. Erasmus kind and competent. He replaced my disk and I have no pain at all. I thank him for his skill. I never found him unkind or uncaring.,

Never checked up on me after surgery, didn't even see him for 3 months, Rude, looks down on you like your some bum off the street, said he was going to remove the brain tumor but he said he was to bust that day so he only did a biopsy. I had to go throw all that when all he had to do was run a blood test, been in more pain now than before he drilled a hole in my head. Said if I didn't like what he did to go somewhere else

He will treat you like you are a bug, and he is god. He will tell you one thing and do another. He does not care about you, and he will not help you. Run

I asked him some questions and concerns and when he didn't just talk over me, he'd dismiss my concern as silly. Each time he edged a little closer to the door.15 minutes. He was in the room 5 minutes. I waited three months, paid several hundred dollars for tests and scans to get the best information, all because my doctors told me that's what I needed to do, and I got 5 minutes with a rude, dismissive, uncaring jerk; and not a single usable answer to any of my questions or concerns. It the single must maddening experiences I've ever had with medical care.

Dr. Erasmus did a disc replacement on my neck at L5/L6. He is not the most personable guy in the world, but then again I'm not going out and having a beer with him. During consultation, he's straight to the point and direct. No meaningless small talk and jibber jabber. He answered all of my questions, told me exactly what surgery would consist of and length of recovery time. I am 2 years post surgery. Absolutely pain free and I have full flexability in my neck. The incision he made near my throat is placed perfectly so now the scar looks like a regular wrinkle. Awesome. I have another herniated disc at L4/L5 and plan to have Dr. Erasmus replace that one as well before he retires. You wont be sorry having this guy operate on you.

The most unprofessional dr ive ever met!

This man is the WORST doctor I've ever encountered. He does not care about patient concerns or how your condition impacts your life. He refuses to answer questions, refuses to explain test results, and it's almost like he takes delight in delivering devastating (and inaccurate) news. Based on his behavior towards me in four years ago and again in summer of 2015, and based on how I've seen him deliver news to his other patients (paper thin walls - no privacy), he does not care about the pain and suffering of those who seek his expertise. My condition is serious - 7 herniated discs, multi-level disc and joint degeneration, lateral scoliosis, severe stenosis in both neck and lumbar, so I'm a real surgical candidate. Or, he said so four years ago. As did two other neurosurgeons. My most recent appointment was scheduled to review new imaging studies, ordered by his CNP, who 3 weeks prior said I probably needed a back fusion to alleviate pelvic and leg numbness and intermittent… incontinence. These symptoms generally are considered very dangerous, and in many cases, require surgery. He did not say hello, he did not say goodbye. He stuck his head in the door, said, "your condition is inoperable," and walked away. He had his CNP come in unprepared (she didn't even remember me or know my name), and she proceeded to say that the doctor said my condition was the result of old age and couldn't be explained by the most recent radiological studies... I'm in my early 40s, and I was originally diagnosed in my 30s. I'm not an old woman. And, I've had 3 neurosurgeons confirm that surgery, though my last option, was likely my only recourse down the road. It was like these people had not reviewed my records. He does not care about how his pronouncements wreck the lives of his patients. He does not familiarize himself well with records before the appointment. He habitually runs late. I wasted two hours of my life in an exam room waiting for that a**hole to take 30 seconds to deliver this devastating news, and I left with more questions than I had before the appointment. If you're looking for help, or a glimmer of hope, or even a doctor who will help you get what you need to live a fruitful life in the face of your condition, RUN AWAY. FIND SOMEONE ELSE!!! Fight for your right to see a better doctor. If you're looking for someone to treat you like the scum of the earth, Erasmus is your man. But, I can't imagine that you're looking for that...so, in your search for someone who will help you...trust all the bad reviews of this doctor. Avoid him at all costs. He is AWFUL.

Dr. Erasmus removed a meningioma in 1995. He took time with my husband and I, answering our questions and not rushing us. My surgery went better than expected and when I had a medical problem after returning home, it was taken care of that day. After 20 years, the tumor has not returned. On his walls were thank you letters from children from third world countries...a neurosurgeon who cares!
