Dr. Mary Elizabeth Cavnar-Johnson, MD

Dr. Johnson was my primary care physician for 10 years. I was not often sick but saw her for physicals. I had insurance changes that took me away. She was always friendly and I noticed her as part of our new insurance. I've been battling an illness and wanted to see her. I had to wait over 2 months to get in to Dr. Johnson and by then, I really need some medication...to continue healing. I went to her office and I was looking forward to seeing her. I even brought her some probiotic tea that has helped me. I arrived exactly 10 minutes late...due to circumstances beyond my control and congestion on Kingwood Dr (construction). I'm the type who feels you're late if you're not early. Her office has a sign offering a 10 minute grace period. I thought I made it by the skin of my teeth. There was no one at the front desk until 2 to 3 minutes after I walked in. The girl didn't say anything about the time when she came to the desk and I was the only patient in the office. She seemed to proceed… as normal and then she informed me the doctor might not see me because I am too late. She told me the doctor messaged her at 13 minutes after and told her she would not see me. But the girl didn't come to the front desk and used up those 3 minutes. She knows this but doesn't seem to care. The doctor would NOT see me and sent me away. It didn't matter that I was standing in the office within the 10 minute grace period. There is no grace offered here. How convenient that no one was at the front desk...maybe everyone went home early? I will have to go to an emergency clinic to get my medication and then find another doctor. I can't see a doctor who offers no grace when they claim they do; and one who has such apathetic office staff. I wish them well anyhow. I would have left the tea for Dr. Johnson but I was so shocked by the lack of concern, a 2 month + waiting period, the 10 minute grace I never received etc...so I didn't realize I had her gift with me until I walked out. It's the thought that counts. For the record, I always offered her and her office staff grace because they have made mistakes and were never the greatest. I have waited over an hour to see her before. She was a friendly doctor...not sure how great she is in an emergency situation but other reviews, I've seen, seem to indicate she's not so great in a crisis situation. I can and will do better.

I have been a patient with Cavnar-Johnson since 1997. I raised a set up twins who also received care from Cavnar-Johnson...over the years, Dr. Johnson became more self absorbed with herself then she did her patients. Most recently I had my physical and well woman with her after being in NC for two years where I was on medication injections for asthma. Mary refused to refill my injection prescription with the excuse, "I am not familiar with that medication." Well guess what, you are an MD - a doctor, get familiar with it." Mary talked about her children and where they were going to school as well as her "ironman" training and results rather than focus on the patient. Recently (Dec 2, 2019) I called for hours trying to get my test results from physical when the person answering the phone put me on hold for over 15 minutes, then she picked up the phone and hung it up. When I called back, she answered and refused to apologize, rather give me two excuses: 1) I don't have any idea… what happen.....2) I am the only one here...what can I help you with? when I ask for an apology, she hung up on me and refused to take my call for the rest of the day. That office is lacking I would not recommend anyone go to see Mary at this time.

Dr. Johnson has been my personal doctor for 25 years. Never once have I felt a lack of genuine concern or empathy for any condition my health presented over the years - a very personal experience. I only hope that everyone feels about their doctor the way I feel (and have always felt) about Dr. Johnson.

Came to the office and was told she's no longer at this location and no one knows where she's located.

I am due for my annual exam, so it's been 9 months or so since I've seen her. I've had her as my primary since 2013. I love her. She's practical, explains things well, and doesn't just write you off by giving you a prescription. She suggests yoga, exercise, and cut down on bread, etc. She makes sense, and takes time with you

She seems to really not care about my needs. Has terrible bedside manners.

My first visit was great. She was attentive and took some time with me. But since that time, she has been very rushed, and almost rude. I will be going elsewhere.

Love ths PA Carrie and the physician. This office is often short staffed and those that work in the front office need more supervision. They waste alot of time and are NOT customer oriented like the rest of the care staff. Watch your billings and hold on to the receipts. She is part of the Greater Houston Physicians Association and they will duplicate and triplicate billing your office visit copya often after 6 months or more out. Only pay with credit card so you have the receipt, so you have proof of payment.

I have been a patient here for over 12 years. I have always seen Dr Shepherd, however due to the lack of respect and the rude nature of the office staff and never being called or followed up with regarding blood work, that DID require a follow up, I am now leaving. In addition I have requested THREE times to pick up my medical records and still have not had them ready. If this office continues like this, they won't last much longer. Just read the other reviews.
