I had a basal cell in the crease of my nose, and my dermatologist recommended Mohs surgery for removal. The wound, they projected, could be the size of a dime, so I inquired about closure options. When they mentioned plastic surgery, I said "Yes!" and they recommended a few plastic surgeons, including Dr. Glafkides. I had a consultation with Dr. Glafkides, and we instantly made a couple of personal connections. I felt that he cared for me as an individual and understood my concerns. He explained how he would conduct the procedure with the confidence of someone who has been there a thousand times before. The two offices coordinated back-to-back surgeries (Mohs & closure). As it turned out, the Mohs left a 1cm x 1.3cm wound. I was scared by the thought of how my face would look. I cried for the first time in many, many years. I considered not going through with the plastic surgery because I was concerned about the impact of additional incisions. The plastic surgery resulted in about 3"… worth of incisions and as many as 25 stitches. Two weeks later, the stitches were removed, and I returned to work. Unless, I pointed it out, no one noticed a thing. Today, six-weeks post-surgery, there is no visible sign of the wound, and the internal healing improves with each week. I cannot recommend Dr. Glafkides highly enough. I would have zero fear of going through something like this again in the future.
