Dr. Michael R Zenn has the following 2 specialties
- Plastic Surgery
A plastic surgery specialist is a physician with extensive training in the execution of plastic surgery procedures.
Plastic surgery is the use of surgical procedures to rebuild or reshape injured or misshapen body parts. Congenital defects, such as a cleft lip or palate, can be corrected by a plastic surgery specialist. Injuries sustained during auto accidents also may require the services of a plastic surgery specialist. These procedures fall under the category of reconstructive plastic surgery.
The other category of plastic surgery is cosmetic plastic surgery. Plastic surgery specialists often perform procedures like breast augmentation, face lifts, tummy tucks, liposuction, and lip injection as elective surgeries for patients who wish to make aesthetic improvements.

My wife was a patient of Zenn about 5 years ago. She had breast cancer in her left breast. He went over her reconstructive choices but told her she was a perfect candidate for a tramflap reconstruction. He preached to her about how great she would do and that she would be back to 100% in no time. She never even saw 50%. Never once did he explain the 20% chance of nerve damage that could be caused. My wife told him on every visit how she was hurting and he just kept telling her she just needed to heal more. Well after all of her visits he released her and said she didn't need to come back for a while unless she experienced any problems. Her pain just kept getting worse and when she did call in to try to see him his nurse brushed her off and told her that her pain was not from the surgery she had and that she needed to go see a general physician. She saw several and they couldn't give her any explanation of her pain. So again she tried to get in with Zenn and again his nurse Jo Anne told her the same thing. This happened 3 times and she refused to let my wife go see him. Finally my wife circumvented Jo Anne and scheduled an appointment with him. When we went to the appt. he told us it was nerve damage and that there is generally only a 6 month window to try and correct nerve damage and of course by this time it was well over 6 months. My wife was working a full time job and going to school full time to become a doctor herself. Now she stays home in bed on most days because the pain is so severe. She couldn't work because the pain and her dreams of school were shattered. That is the life my wife is left with because of him and his nurse. Another doctor we had spoken with about the pain had said he would send a letter to Zenn about how he recommended that we turn him into the review board. I think we should have and am still debating it. Of course we talked to lawyers and they said chances of winning a la suit here in NC are only about 25% and that there are several laws in NC that make it harder to sue doctors and win. She lost her job because of him and her chances of becoming a doctor herself. If you are considering him as a surgeon do your homework on all the procedures and don't let him tell you how great it will be and how quick you will be at 100%. We have spent the past 5 years struggling financially because of him. We have stayed behind on bills lost vehicles and barely had food at times to feed my family. Please do all your research and ask him what the possible side effects of any surgery you are considering can have. She hasn't even gone back to him to have him do his second surgery to lift the breast and shape it to match the other one. Most importantly don't let that twit Jo Anne push you off. Like that doctor told us she is an extsension of Zenn so if she brushes you off it's no different then him doing it. Oh and we have spent a lot of money on extra medical bills and surgeries becaus of that tramflap procedure he did. My wife has had around 5 surgeries to help her with the nerve damage he caused and she now has a nerve stimulator in her body to try and help with the pain. I'm not sure why I have waited so long to put this review up I guess partly because I have had many other things to worry about and because we are still trying to get her disability. Anybody who is in the position to be reading these or talking to doctors about things like this I'm sorry and Gor Bless You and ask any and all questions and research. She did a lot of research but it was t till after that she found out about the possibility of nerve damage associated with tramflap reconstructions. Good luck and again GOD BLESS
I had a bilateral mastectomy. I was 73 years old and this wonderful brilliant surgeon and staff made my reconstruction surgery a beautiful experience. I was so blessed to have this awesome man as my doctor. I cannot praise him and his staff enough. Thank you for my beautiful breast and caring so much for me. I love you guys and am so grateful for how wonderful you always made me feel.
After 15 years of pain from capsular contracture and hematomas, I consulted the first Duke surgeon. He informed me that he would not perform the surgery, because the same problems might reoccur. The staff, then, highly recommended Dr. Zenn, as they felt he was the best and most qualified for this type of revision reconstructive procedure. Most important, when I met with him, I could ask questions and get answers regarding the diagnosis, surgical procedures, and options available to me. And we discussed possible complications with my health issues. Since surgery, I have been pain free and happy with the results!
