I was referred to Dr. Beamer 7 years ago for a broken foot and sprained ankle. After wearing a walking cast and completing physical therapy, I was still in severe pain. In my follow-up visit, she looked at my x-ray (without examining my foot or ankle), looked me dead in the eye and told me I wasn’t in pain anymore. What I was experiencing wasn’t real. My feet just hurt because I was overweight. It took two years to get to a specialist at UPMC, who confirmed that she initially misdiagnosed my injury as an avulsion fracture (it was a clean break), and after walking on the foot for 2+ years to try to lose weight, the bone was STILL broken. As a bonus, I developed so much scar tissue around the injury (due to continued exercise and pressure on the area), which resulted in chronic plantar fasciitis and osteoarthritis. I had two surgeries at UPMC to correct these issues, but I now have osteoarthritis and bone spurs for life. If she has correctly diagnosed me - or even listened to me… - this all could’ve been avoided. But rather than admit she didn’t know what she was doing, she blamed me. If I could forward all those medical bills to her, I would.
