When you need your heart operated on you seek out the best. I have found this in Dr McCarthy. His professionalism is only over shined by his genuine concern for my health.

I had no doubt about his skills. Mine was a very difficult case and I truly believe he saved my life. His bedside manner sucks. I'd take my life over a warm fuzzy doctor any day of course.

He did not take the time to examine my son himself. The way he came across during the consult made me not want to have him as a surgeon. He told us that my son could wait for surgery and that his symptoms had nothing to do with his condition when clearly says on their website what symptoms to look for. I would not recommend him simply because I felt he was too full of himself to really be bothered.

Dr. Mccarthy repaired a hole in the atrium wall, repaired my tricuspid valve and performed Maze surgery thereby effectively eliminating my atrial fibrillation. His immediate staff is amazing- always called back punctually,followed up with me for the last 4 years, and were always courteous and on the ball. My current cardiologist tells me that I no longer have heart disease. I feel that I owe it all to Dr. McCarthy's magic hands. He is an outstanding surgeon who does not shirk from doing the tough valve repair over an easier valve replacement, thus freeing me from Coumadin and the possibility of lifelong anti-rejection drugs.

Dr McCarthy performed a myectomy and maze procedure on both myself and my mother for HCM. We had great success with this extremely skilled professional and are very thankful that Northwestern has him on their team.

Specilizes in some of the most difficult cases with supposedly no hope. He repaired my mitral valve as promised and I was home in 5 days.
