Dr. Puneet Masson, MD

I'm a practicing GP in Dubai with a 12 years of clinical experience. I came to Dr Masson a year ago when I suspected a mild varicocele in my right testis! He took history and physical exam and told me that I had 2 varicoceles graded 2 and 3 in both testes and that I'd require a surgery at the same time in both testes to improve my fertility ability as it was affected.I was skeptical of the diagnosis and asked him for an ultrasound to confirm the findings but he was reluctant, unreasonably confident and that's when mistakes happen! He didn't either seem to care about my professional opinion as a doctor which was unusual as I saw doctors before in Philadelphia whom discussed various conditions with me, investigations needed, treatment options and were open to suggestions as they respected my opinion as a doctor. I didn't want to confront Dr Masson in his own practice and agreed to proceed with the surgery although I was certain I wasn't gonna do it! I saw another urologist in Bryn Mawr… who examined me thoroughly and told me that everything is normal and he couldn't detect any abnormality any of my testes and that NO surgery is required! He sent me for an ultrasound for the benefit of the doubt which revealed no abnormality in any testis other than a small hydrocele which was insignificant. My question is what would have happened if I followed Dr Masson's advice and did the surgery? What would the surgery change and what would be operated on if everything was normal? If I was a doctor and was exposed to such experience in one of the best centers in Philadelphia, what would happen to normal people who have no medical background and would trust their medical provider completely? This doctor's clinical judgement and position should be reassessed and I hope Penn medicine would read and consider my review.
