Dr. Richard L Halpert, MD

Patient for 5 years and the wait time and attitude of the staff is horrible! Over an hour wait and not one at the desk could inquire how much longer. I worked as a nurse at a Gyn office and the least they could do is ask his nurse what’s going on and how long. All had an attitude when they realized I was upset, like my and the patients time is irrelevant.

I have been in under their care for the last 20 plus years, would not go anywhere else. have a nice summer Dr. Halpert & Dr. Sommers may God bless you both. Judy M.

I have been a patient of Dr. Halpert and Dr. Sommers for about 15 years. When I got pregnant with my first, I didn’t have time to look for a new OB so I continued with the office. I needed to switch to Dr. Sommers from Dr. Halpert early in the pregnancy because of Dr. Halperts wait times of 2+ hours. I stuck it out for 9 months and finally had a beautiful baby girl. She was delivered by the on-call OB at St. Catherine’s and Dr. Halpert didn’t show up to see me for 2 days!! Now, a surprise pregnancy with my second...I am again following with this office because of the lack of time I had to do research for the new OB. I started this time with Dr. Sommers and was doing fine. But finally for my 20 week anatomy sono and follow up, I had to see Dr. Halpert due to lack of sono appointments. After waiting 2 hours for Dr. Halpert, all he did was take my blood pressure and hand me the glucose drink to drink before my next appointment. All of this on my daughters first birthday! I was so angry to… say the absolute least and now, mid pregnancy, I am looking for a new OB. I refuse to go back to that office!

Hands down, the best Dr. in the Smithtown area. He is extremely caring and takes time with you at every appointment. I've never felt like I wasn't being heard. Dr. Halpert had been my OBGYN through all three of my pregnancies and he is just so wonderful. If you are in need of a good Dr. for your overall health or for conceiving and prenatal care, he is the Dr. you want to see.

About two years ago I moved out to Suffolk and needed to find a gyno when I found this practice I was happy from the start. Dr. Halpert has the nicest most down to earth character I have ever experienced in a Dr. Honestly I never thought a dr. Could be such a regular guy. About a year ago my husband and I decided we wanted to get pregnant, dr. Halpert took the time to explain ovulation to me and I am a woman so naturally a bit inpatient so I would show up at his office monthly around ovulation so he could do a sonogram and make sure I was ovulating. Many times I found myself crying out of frustration because I still wasn't pregnant. Dr. Halpert would assure me it would happen he would assure me I was doing everything in my power. He'd pull up a seat in the examining room almost like he didn't feel comfortable leaving me so upset. Now what Dr. Cares that much for his patients? Not any I know. 5 months after trying my husband and I found out our baby was on the way!!!! When we first went… in to see Dr. Halpert he had a huge smile and was so happy for us. It's refreshing to be under someone's care that cares for you. Over the past 9 months I have had naturally many questions whenever I called office he'd get right on the phone and answer all of my questions thoroughly. He'd always tell me I could come in on the spot if I was concerned about the baby. Now I am 11 days from my due date and I am so blessed that I have him to deliver my newborn.

With my family history of Ovarian Cancer, an astute and caring OBGYN is most important to me. The fact that he makes you feel comfortable, no matter the concern, is a plus. Doctor Halpert pays attention to questions and concerns, and will answer them in a way that you will understand. And if you don't understand, and ask again, he will not make you feel funny about it. The only issue is that this is such a popular practice, I always have to plan to wait a long time to be seen. I have always felt that the professionalism and attention I get make it worth waiting for.

Dr Halpert truly cares about how you are feeling. He spends time with you and doesn't dismiss how you are feeling. He is great

I met with Dr Halpert a year after I was married. He told me my plumbing looked good and to keep trying for another year to get pregnant naturally. It turns out that I have blocked tubes and the Dr never referred me to a specialist. Now my age is such that I need to try IVF and may not have success since I waited. I would never recommend this doctor.

DR HALPERT IS EXCELLENT. HE TOOK THE TIME TO SPEAK WITH ME IN HIS OFFICE I HAD BEEN DIAGNOSED WITH FIBROIDS AND HE REALLY PUT MY MIND AT EASEI ALSO SAW HIS NP KATHLEEN WHO HAS LEFT THE PRACTICE. TOO BAD SHE WAS EXCELLENT I FELT SO COMFORTABLE WITH HER. VERY INTO PREVENTION/NON JUDGEMENTAL. WISH SHE WOULD COME BACKTHE OTHER NP DEBRA IS NICE, RUSHED AND QUICK THOUGH. DID NOT FEEL A SENSE OF CARING THERE. I WILL GO TO DR. HALPERT FOR MY ANNUAL VISITS NOW.

I had first seen Dr. Halpert in a surgery setting, where I was waiting for my surgeon. Dr. Halpert walked around the surgery setting, saying hello to patients as well as hospital staff in a jovial manner. I then asked a nurse friend who that doctor was and she said Dr. Halpert along with sharing with me his field of expertise. I needed an outgoing person to meet my needs who seemed to care for me as a person.
