Dr. Robert Paul Falconiero, DO

SJSM repaired three of my acl's. Falconiero 2 of the 3. After doing my research on the first 2 failed repairs I wanted to use my own tissue (patel) instead of a cadaver. doc recommend not doing that so we went with cadaver again. Fail again. The straw that broke the camels back was a plyo jump. When I went to in to see him he asked why was I doing plyo jumps?!? For one I am an athlete, hockey player, and a coach. I am active and I am not 65 years old. My training and activity was consistent over the past 5 years and it blew out during a jump. I thought it was unprofessional for him to question my "activity" level or what and why I was being active! I came to him for a diagnosis and to treat me, not to lecture me. Do you know how much surgeons make when you come back to them for multiple surgeries?$? Not only did he rub off on me the wrong way, he stirred me away and lost my health subscribers business. Before I left South Jersey Sports Medicne for my 4th repair, I had found… extensive research supporting the use of your own hamstring tendon. So I asked Dr. Falconeiro about using the hamstring and he told me I have to be over a certain weight or height for that surgery to be successful?!? What? Guess what he wanted to do....patella or cadaver again! Doc also failed to tell me of the fracture/decaying hole that was in my tibia (from previous acl repairs) over time it gradually became unstable most likely causing the most recent tear considering I haven't changed my activity or training drastically in years following the 3rd surgery. This expalination should have been revealed to me when we went over my films and mri. Had I gone with his recommendation for the patella I would not only have the new acl plugged into the same gaping hole that's failed 3 times : / I would now have a hole in my knee cap as well. I went to Rothman and found more about my knee in five minutes then Dr. Falconiero has taught me in 5 years. Rothman also specializes in knee surgeries on professional athletes playing for Philadelphia teams. They decided that hamstring would be best, as well as giving me a bone graft to repair the tibia. I am extremely confident this time around. Overall SJSM staff was very friendly, however just because its "Sports Medicine", doesn't mean go there if your an athlete! Do your research go to the pros that work on pros! Wish I had done my research during my first injury. Live and learn!
