Dr. Serene Samir Srouji, MD

I had severe cramping and nausea for almost a year and a half and had already been to my primary care physician at MGH as well as a specialty doctor at MGH and had an ultrasound -- and no one was able to diagnose me - they sent me away and said it was likely just severe indigestion from frequent business travel which was ridiculous given my symptoms but I still didn't know what I had. I spoke to a friend of mine who was a doctor in Boston -- and she recommended that I see a Dr at the Brigham - Dr Srouji - who she said had an excellent reputation with diagnosis. Since I had nothing to lose and still had severe pain at random intervals, I called and made an appointment and went in. Dr Srouji diagnosed me correctly within 15 minutes - did a full physical exam, discussed my symptoms in-depth with me and ordered a detailed ultrasound. The ultrasound came back conclusive for an ovarian cyst that had clearly been developing and growing with complications over the prior year which explained… the episodic severe pain I was experiencing. When I saw how fast, how observant, how smart, and what a good listener she was - I wanted to drag her to all the other doctors I had (paid for) and gone to for the last year and a half and say-- "See this is how you are supposed to do your job!" She clearly and simply laid out the parameters of treatment to resolve both my pain and any risk the cyst could cause me in the future - explained the risks and told me to consider her recommendation to remove the cyst via lower-impact laparscopic surgery and come back with questions. She was able to approach the surgery (which she expertly performed) with a specific appreciation for and attention to fertility issues as well - ie. preserving and not damaging my ovary since I wanted to have children in a couple years. I was completely impressed and totally grateful for how focused, smart and kind Dr Srouji was at each step. Having now had a very positive experience with Dr Srouji -- and the complete resolution of the cyst and any symptoms I had -- I wish more doctors were like her! And they are not! If you need a first or a second opinion or need anything in her area of expertise -- go to her! She is so smart and also evidences a basic understanding of all facets of care and medicine -- which many doctors struggle to do - practice top-notch medicine while still evidencing genuine care for their patients. I could not be happier with her approach, her diagnostic and surgical expertise and excellence, the speed and ease with which she correctly diagnosed me and her follow-up consultation. One in a million - go to her!

I hate to write this review but I did not feel that I was in competent care for my specific treatment. I went to see Dr. Srouji as a second opinion because I was highly impressed with her medical and patient reviews. The first time we met I really liked her and the course of action suggested to treat my ailment. It is the follow-up visit in which I had issues. During the visit she was unsure of my scheduled surgery (which was the following week). While on the examining table, I am thinking too myself I understand that I am not your only patient but could you have at least looked at my medical file before my visit. I would also think that as a doctor one should be cognizant of upcoming surgeries. I felt she was not as confident in performing my surgery because while on the examining table she said we might want to delay the surgery but if you want to go ahead with it I am confident I can do it. I was silent and confused. Also, when I left the examining room to meet her in the office… I ended up having to stand outside the office. While I was standing outside she was in consultation with another doctor and guess what happened... they closed the door right in my face! I felt like a reject or not valued as a patient. There is something called manners. I do not mind waiting but please use words to let me know to wait elsewhere. When I was in her office I expressed my fears with the surgery because this would be my first surgery. I also mentioned to her about a less invasive surgery and wanted to know if I would be a candidate. Yes, I still inquired about this procedure even though I was scheduled for my surgery the following week. At first she was quiet because she was busy filling out a form and when she did answer my question she was so dismissive about the procedure. My heart sank and I knew I had to reevaluate this situation To make a very long story short I ended up going back to my first doctor (first opinion) and I am glad I did.

After years of trying ,I have been to almost every fertility clinic in the state, hands down to Dr Srouji . She is kind ,always patient,take time to listen and talk to you , she try everything to help us, thank God someone refer me to her so finally I have a successful pregnancy. Truly recommend anyone struggling with infertility to see DR Srouji.

Dr Srouji is a phenomenal doctor. Excellent diagnostician, genuine bedside manner, top surgeon and follows up immediately and then as needed days and even weeks later. Incredibly smart, quick and caring. The profession needs more doctors like dr Srouji.

A big, big thank you to Dr. Srouji. My husband and I tried to get pregnant with our second child for over a year without success. Although I never had difficulty getting pregnant with our first child, I finally went to see Dr. Srouji and she discovered that I had low AMH and high FSH. Since I was of younger chronological age (almost 35 years old) she recommended trying Femara and it worked the FIRST time! We are now over 3 months pregnant with our second child. Baby looks healthy and we are feeling very grateful.

My husband and I cannot say enough positive things about Dr. Srouji and the team that she works with at Brigham and Women's Hospital. We came to see her about fertility problems and she was able to guide us through the whole IVF process. This month we celebrated our daughter's third birthday and couldn't be happier! We would definitely recommend anyone experiencing this type of problem to Dr. Srouji.

She is wonderful in all respects! I have seen her for fibroid issues and she is so knowledgeable and has a really lovely bedside manner.

Dr. Srouji was incompetent in my care. She was indifferent to my persistent symptoms which were not resolved by her surgery and she knew that but continued to provide faulty care and offered faulty advice. She did not review my medical records before appointments as she should have too. She chose to ignore my complaints of severe pain which were directly correlated with my advanced and well-documented disease state. On top of it she's a poor communicator who provides no relevant literature or data to substantiate her ideas. I've suffered tremendously as a result of her "care". Incompetent, inexperienced, and indifferent is how I would describe Dr. Srouji's care.

Amazing doctor- felt like miracle worker! Found our way to her for second opinion after 3 failed IVF cycles and she got us pregnant first try! Couldn't have been happier with her compassionate bedside manner and honest feedback! She didn't just tell us what we wanted to hear but was always positive and caring. Can't say enough good things
