Thank you for reading my profile. Having grown up on the Peninsula as a child with allergies and severe asthma, I take great pride in the fact that I now get to care for children and adults who suffer with these same problems. When I enrolled at Eastern Virginia Medical School over 30 years ago, 3 things were emphasized: Competency, Compassion and Commitment. I hold on to those values today in my medical practice. Competency: I'm fortunate to have trained at one of the best clinical Allergy & Immunology programs in the country under some of the most world-renowned experts in the diagnosis and management of allergies and immune system disorders. Over 20 years of experience in academic and private practice has enhanced that original training. I continue to complete the requirements to get re-certified by the American Board of Allergy & Immunology. Compassion: I love what I do. I've been there as a patient, having spent many nights in the hospital as a child and adolescent with severe asthma. I've dealt with the long-term consequences of both the disease and the treatment. Whether it's children with eczema so severe they can't sleep, adolescents with hay fever so bad it affects their school work and social life, or adults with asthma so uncontrolled it prevents them from being effective at work, it brings me great joy and satisfaction in helping my patients achieve control of their health problems. Commitment: Whatever it takes. I don't always have all of the answers, but I'm committed to doing all I can to help in anyway possible. Often I consult one of my many Allergy Partners colleagues. Sometimes I have to learn about a new condition I haven't seen before. And occasionally it's necessary to send a patient to someone else who can provide better expertise than I have to offer. One thing we don't do at Allergy Partners is give you some prescriptions and send you out the door. We do everything we can to help you understand your condition and its treatment. The better you understand it, the more likely you'll stick with the plan and get the results you're seeking. For chronic conditions such as asthma, research has documented that regular follow-up is one of the most important components of long-term control. Slipping through the cracks is not acceptable.
