Dr. Steven Paul Herzog, MD

I would give this doctor zero stars if I could. My husband went to him for an intractable headache he had. He refused to see him after the initial appointment (which was a telemed) until I insisted upon it as the treatment plan was not helping him. His NP was very nice and helpful, but at this point my husband was out of work and suffering greatly and needed the doctor to come up with another course of treatment. He begrudgingly came into the room and was so rude, arrogant, and put out that he had to see a patient. It was clear this doctor is not in practice because he wants to help people. He wanted my husband to have an infusion of a drug that was in the same class of drug that he had an allergic reaction to, and when I voiced a concern to him, he said you can give him some Benadryl. I asked for an Epi pen, but he would not prescribe it. This reaction happened a week or so after he took the drug. He said well then you can just call 911. Obviously we were not comfortable… with that solution. After he milked my husband’s insurance for everything he could from scans to meds, he sent him a letter stating he would no longer be his neurologist and he had 30 days to find another one. When my husband called to get his RX refilled within that time frame, the doctor denied the prescription. He also blocked his access to the portal.

He’s a brilliant, thoughtful, caring and experienced neurologist. We highly recommend him.

I've seen numerous neurologists for a vestibular migraine disorder that I've suffered from every day for 6 years. Most doctors do one test, report inconclusive findings and send me on my way. Dr. Herzog was patient with me as I reported my history and came up with multiple ideas about a path forward, giving me hope that I've needed that it's possible to eventually get relief. I appreciate his deep thinking to explore options that no other doctor has considered.

I came to Dr Herzog on the recommendation of my ENT. She and a neurologist I saw when in the hospital for dizzy spells believe I am have vestibular migraines. Dr Herzog was very dismissive of that, not even asking any questions of what I’ve been going through in order to get an idea of my problem. He seemed in a hurry and took very little time with me when as a new patient I would expect him to spend more time. When I teared up some out of frustration, he finally said, well I guess we can try this and gave a couple of options. As a nurse, I see a lot of doctors and he is one of the worse. Has NO compassion. Don’t see this man

Easy to get an appointment. He took his time to get to know me, asked tons of questions, and was empathetic and caring. Literally one of the best docs I've seen. I am impressed with his knowledge, and grateful for the time he took and the care I received.

I came to Dr. Herzog as a result of a referral from Dr. Lawrence Schaeffer (who by the way was excellent, but moved to Amarillo) for migraines. Herzog treats everyone with contempt, is late for your scheduled appointment, and when he does appear, you better be ready to to discuss everything in 2 minutes, because that is all the time you will get. I'm glad to see it's not just me who thinks he has no bedside manner, and cares nothing about his patients. Make me think the "glowing" comments are all plants. I'm a human being, not a piece of meat, unworthy of his time, but that's exactly how he makes you feel. If he hates people, and holds them in contempt that much he ought to be in a different line of work.

I have never felt so abandoned and hurt by a doctor. When he couldnt find out what was wrong he called me a drug addict and when i stood up for myself he terminated his services. he doesnt care about his patients and is ready to dismiss you like trash if you dont kiss his feet.

Dr. Herzog is probably all the things mentioned in other reviews however ultimately he will do every thing possible to assist with your migraine management. At my first visit he let me know I was an impossible case but I kept going back as he is the only qualified migraine neuro, others say they can manage but Dr. Herzog is leading research and studies to improve migraine management. I've been seeing him for almost four years and although can be brusque and impatient at times, who isn't?, he is caring and takes care with you. I'd recommend him to anyone with a tough time managing migraine pain.

He was rude and in a hurry

this doc and his staff changed my life... i'd suffered w/migraines all my life and rarely did a doc seem to care pas prescribing pain meds and telling me i was nuts...this guy knows what he's doing... every nurse prac. he's had has been great... i changed my health insurance to be able to continue going to this practice..
