Dr. Steven E. Mayer, MD

Yelled at my husband and told me my severe back pain was anxiety. He did not spend time with me to listen to me. Horrible!!!

I came to Dr. Mayer to get a 2nd opinion on some spinal issues that I've had. He barely listened to me, just repeated back the diagnosis that was listed on my MRI. He didn't offer any new suggestions and just wanted to recommend injections. He didn't seem very engaged or interested. Not worth even the drive to see him.

Dr. Steven Mayer, presented himself and treated me in all the ways I am going to list. Not once but twice. Arrogant, rude, disrespectful, belittling badgering condescending. My experience proved that Dr. Stephen Mayor does not listen to what his patients have to say. Or has their best interest in mind. At my appointment I was explaining to Dr.Stephen Mayer that I did the physical therapy. That I was still in so much pain in my back. That I have been dealing with these symptoms for years. I was previously diagnosed with lumbar degenerative disc disease, scoliosis, spinal stenosis, arthritis and other issues with my disks. That my physical therapist sent him a message. On how she felt there may be an issue with my hip or pelvis. Dr. Mayor never replied. So then my physical therapist sent the same message to my family physician. My physician ended up sending me to a hip doctor. Where we figured out my pelvis was uneven. Which confirmed me… telling Dr. Stephen Mayor that I feel like one leg is longer than the other. Which he told me that I was fine. I stated that may be from compensating for all of those years. May have made the pain worse. At my second visit with Dr. Stephen Mayer. He literally in a disciplining manner said, “ why did you go see a hip doctor. That it was a waste of time. That I did not need to go and see him.” I tried to explained to Dr. Stephen Mayer before he rudely interrupted me and ignored what I was trying to say. That I was following the recommendations of my physical therapist. That now I know why I have been feeling like one leg is longer than the other for all these years. I explained that I have been dealing with this back pain for so many years. That can I see about having back surgery. Dr. Stephen Mayer in a rude and condescending voice said, ( oh so you want to just get cut open and have a big surgery. That you’re not willing to do anything else to help yourself. That if that’s what I want to get cut open. That he can just go grab one of his colleagues now and set it up.) Then he continued with saying, “ That I was not willing to help myself. That I literally have nothing wrong with my back at all. That he wanted me to go see a chiropractor.” I explain to the doctor that I would absolutely love to see a chiropractor or get A therapeutic massage. That my insurance won’t pay for A chiropractor. Dr. Mayor once again started up on me saying, “ that I did not want to help myself. That the chiropractor is through northwestern and it will be covered by insurance.” I tried to then explain to him again that it is not covered. Dr. Mayor kept on badgering me until I said, “ fine just give me the referral for the chiropractor.” I literally just wanted to get out of his presence and his office as fast as I can. As I was trying to ask Dr Mayer a question. He literally walked out the room as I was speaking. I then called the chiropractor to have them tell me. That they do not take my insurance. I then sent Dr. Mayor the information in a message form through my chart. ( Not that I wasn’t surprised ) but he never replied back. I explained the way I was treated by Dr. Stephen Mayor to my other doctor. Then that doctor gave me a referral to a different pain management doctor in the same practice. Amen The lesson of the day is, always do your research and read the reviews on a doctor before you make an appointment. As I was reading the reviews after the fact. I found out that I was not the only one that Dr. Stephen Mayor treated this way. I hope this review helps someone else. To prevents them from enduring what I had to go through by being a patient of Dr. mayors.

There are plenty of other doctors available, so shop for a doctor elsewhere. You will get a doctor who will provide you better care. If you want a below average, subpar doctor, by all means, schedule an appointment. But, do not complain to anyone else as it will be your own fault. I saw the poor reviews and went anyways, shame on me. Learn from my mistake, make an appointment with another doctor. Fair warning. Trust me.

Dr. Mayer saw me last week, I was suffering pain in my right hip and leg. After listening carefully to me and asking questions to hone in on my problem, Dr. Mayer suggested several courses of action. To provide some quick relief, Dr. Mayer suggested an immediate injection to help with some of the pain immediately. I accepted his suggestion, and within a short time, some of the worst pain was brought under control. Dr. Mayer treated me as a partner in my care, and I am so appreciative of that. I definitely recommend Dr. Mayer!

Dr. Steven Mayer with Cadence/Northwestern Memorial Health care provided excellent, compassionate patient care. Excellent bedside manners. Excellent interactions with family members.

This is the most unprofessional/ rude doctor I have ever met.

THIS GUY SHOULD GO BACK TO COLLEGE, I AM IN SO MUCH PAIN BUT HE IS A WOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOS THAT WILL GIVE YOU 5.75 NARCO 2 A DAY THANKS FOR ALL THE PAIN MANAGEMENT. MIKE. PS HE DOES NOT OWN 11 OFFICES HE JUST PIMPS OUT OF THEM. THXS FOR READING 16 WHEEL MIKE.

Please if anyone tells you he is a good doctor RUN! This nut will make you feel 10X worse after he is done extorting you wallet and does nothing b ut make you feel like there is no hope. There are many good Doctors but This one must have paid someone to take his college courses. PS. Pls Listen folks.
