Dr. Stuart R Chipkin, MD

Very thoughtful, very thorough. So kind. This is my favorite doctor out of my whole care team. I recommend him to everyone that needs and endocrinologist.

My name is Sara. I saw Dr Chipkin back in 2009 for gender confirmation hormone therapy. Despite writing articles on the subject, he deliberately took me off my anti androgen with no reason given, presumably because he is transphobic and wishes to hurt as many trans people as he can. Sadly, I didn't realize at the time the incredible emotional impact that his malice had done and I collapsed into a depression for the next 12 years, by which it was too late to seek compensation. Despite there being nothing that I can do, he still won't return my phone calls with an I'm sorry. Please support an endocrinologist that supports the trans community, not hurts them

(Have someone present and I’ll get too why soon) So I came there for hyperthyroidism at first it was nice he listened to my actual symptoms. After getting radiation therapy and becoming hypo and going on levothyroxine things slowly changed. Before having the radiation therapy he would examine me by him self and it would involve most things that made sense and were consistent BUT, early on he would examine my chest not like for lumps just check around my breasts I didn’t think anything of it and it might be nothing. Though last couple visits had a female doctor shadow in training and he did non of those examines and that’s why I say have someone present. Plus at the end yes literally avoided putting any symptoms down I said I haven’t felt great with energy and I had problems with my BM. When I got the visit note he wrote everything is going great basically just completely disregarding my symptoms b/c my numbers were good. I recently had a medicine change making my thyroid a little more… toward the hyper side and all those issues went away no thanks to him. In the beginning he listened at the end it was spin and I realized he may have been creepy as well.

He was very patient, kind and informative. Dr. Chipkin did a thorough history, and then asked me if I had any questions. Then he made a treatment plan. Excellent Experience!!

Waited 50 minutes first visit, 65 min. the next. Not even an apology. Taking my business elsewhere.

I waited months to see Dr. Chipkin, and it was not worth the wait. I had already been diagnosed with Hashimoto's disease, but was having problems with faintness, usually after standing for a few minutes. So, I wanted a second opinion. The consult was unusually long, about an hour. But that was because Dr. Chipkin spent most of that time in the hall talking on the phone. He was gone so long he actually forgot that I was in the consult room. Then he had me lie down for 15 minutes while he went off and did something else. When he came back he took my pulse, which was in the 50s. Then he had me stand up and took my pulse again. It was in the 80s. "That can't be right," he said. And that was the end of that. He ordered a couple of tests, and I went home. There was no follow-up. It turned out that the 30-point jump in my pulse was an indication of POTS (Postural Orthostatic Tachycardia Syndrome), which is a form of dysautonomia. Dr. Chipkin couldn't spare the time to investigate why… my pulse jumped, so I went another year without a diagnosis. I also went another year without a confirmation of hypothyroidism. It wasn't until I went to California, where an experienced endocrinologist finally evaluated me, that I was correctly diagnosed and put on medication. Unfortunately, when I returned to the east coast, I was forced to return to Dr. Chipkin's practice. This time I was seen by his PA, Mercedes Clingerman, who turned out to be even more incompetent than Dr. Chipkin. She had my PCP order thyroid tests, because she could not be bothered. On a follow-up visit three months later, she didn't order any tests at all. I had to call the lab to schedule them. When I ran out of my prescription, it took five days to get her to sign off. Again, she could not be bothered. When I finally saw her, she told me that my afternoon flushing had nothing to do with my thyroid (she was wrong), and that my low T4 number was "normal." She further demonstrated her ignorance by stating that the only test that counted was the TSH. No reasonably well-informed endocrinologist believes that a single test, the TSH, can measure the status of the thyroid. What's more, she did not test my reflexes (it is routine to test the reflexes of thyroid patients), nor did she bother to look up once from her computer, where she typed constantly. Predictably, because she didn't listen to anything I was saying, what she typed was incorrect. Avoid this practice. They are incompetent, dismissive, and rude.

If you are a young woman, ask that a nurse be present

Extremely thorough. Excellent understanding of multiple facets of patient care. Always takes the time to answer any and all questions and concerns. Any wait is negated by the quality of the visit. Enormously talented. Always sees beyond the obvious. Diagnostic ability inspires confidence. Kind and competent. Documentation accurately describes conditions and diagnosis. I highly recommend Dr. Chipkin.

excellent diagnostic skills, very thorough, highly intelligent, listens well, tends to be rapid in questions but thinks like a cray computer. always on call after hours, if you need to reach him he always returns calls. really gets to know each patient, is not judgemental easy disposition.
