Honest straightforward caring makes me feel human again and gives me hope

My husband is a patient of Dr. Lugo-Medina and he hasn't even seen her in at least 3 years. He just calls and has his prescriptions refilled without ever getting checked to see how they are working for him or if he's had any changes in his condition. She takes everything he says at face value (He is Bi-Polar!) and says ok. I tried to see her several years ago with him and she was on vacation...His appointment was SCHEDULED!!! I don't think it's right that she just approves refills on prescriptions via phone messages. She has even told him that there is nothing wrong with him and that it is everyone else that has a problem with him. We NEVER talk to anyone in the office when we call. Nobody ever answers the phone. I have tried several times to contact her in regards to his medicine and never get any answers. I don't appreciate being given the brush off. He has had other Doctors for this condition and ALL of them have asked to see me at some point to get my view on his behavior… while on certain treatments. I feel she should really rethink her practices and put the patient and their family first. His medicine normally requires a yearly blood test that never gets done because he doesn't see her at all and she doesn't schedule or give him paperwork to take to the hospital to get it done. I would never recommend her to anyone...I wouldn't even have her take care of a dog. I am worried about my husband's health, since seeing her he has developed peptic ulcers that I am sure are due to his meds but can't prove it without testing...which I can't get since she never see him! I just want him to start seeing another Doctor but since she does whatever he wants her to, he will keep seeing her and I will never get my "normal" husband back. I will continue to live with his issues for as long as I can but something needs to be done about her practice!

I was a patient in high school, my father is a current patient. Dr. Lugo and her staff have no concept of HIPPA guidelines. Since being a patient I contacted her office to request my medical records. I am married with a different last name than when I was a patient of hers in high school. I left a message, with my name and phone number requesting a call back regarding my medical records. Within a few days, I received a call back, Dr. Lugo's office left a voicemail indicating they needed an address to send my records to. I called Dr. Lugo's office back, and had to leave another voice mail with my address. I heard nothing back from the office and just over a week later received my medical records in the mail. I NEVER spoke to anyone. No one verified who I was or requested a signed release be submitted for the records. Next, if you request a refill for a prescription, you will leave a message indicating what you need. Then you will drive to the office, if it's after hours you can pick up… the prescription after going through a stack of prescriptions that were left in a mailbox, by this time you can see who all is a patient of Dr. Lugo's, and what medications they are being prescribed. Dr. Lugo has left for vacation for weeks on end without any indication of her absence. My father has been left without his cocktail of medications for a week or so because he was unaware of Dr. Lugo's absence. When you see Dr. Lugo, you can request what medication you feel is best for you. My once attentive father, is on so much medication that he falls asleep while talking on the phone, while eating, while getting out of his vehicle, and in the middle of games with his grandchild. I can't believe Dr. Lugo still has a license to practice medicine. I've worked for a good psychiatrist, and I can tell you, she is not a good psychiatrist. I wouldn't trust her with anything, especially my family. My dad knows he can go to her and get whatever he wants, and she continues to prescribe him whatever he requests. She will write prescriptions even after not seeing him for 6-7 months. I wouldn't recommend Dr. Lugo to anyone, not even my worst enemy.

We are writing as a family member of the patient treated by Dr. Lugo. Our experience with Dr. Lugo was very different from some negative comments made by other reviewers. She was attentive, returned our calls promptly, and we were very impressed by her expertise in diagnosis and in the use of psychotropic medications. She spent an extraordinary amount of time informing herself of our family memberâ??s medical and psychiatric history, and prepared a treatment plan which brought our relative back from a state of psychiatric crisis back to her normal self.

My son was a patient at this office (chosen by his father and not me) for a little over one year. Dr. Lugo prescribed a 'cocktail' of medications to my young child before even speaking with me, the child's mother, while having joint custody of the child! After meeting with her and being told that my son was being medicated because his father and I lacked good communication, I was ready to seek legal advice. I wouldn't trust her with my dog. I also agree with the other reviews that say no one answers the phone either.

Dr. Lugo-Medina is great! Unfortunately, when you call the office, no one EVER answers! You have to leave a message and hope they call you back. When scheduling an appointment, you just have to leave a message on the times you are available and the scheduler will call you back with the time.

Call and call, day after day, and it is never answered by office gal! After days she just MIGHT call you back. It's very frustrating. Dr. Lugo is fantastic once you get past the office gal. Also office gal informed me that I did NOT need the medications Dr. Lugo prescribed for me!

Very unprofessional practice.

I visited this dr. with my son. The two times I had appts. she was more than 30 minutes late. I called her regarding medication and she never returned my phone call, now a week later. She is very nice, but not professional.
