The office staff can be rude and condescending. They also have been known to make errors when making patient appointments. This has happened to others in my presence; I was standing behind a patient once who had taken time off work to be there. The staff had canceled her appointment (unbeknownst to her) and had never let her know. She had made the trip to the doctor's office for no reason and was visibly upset. I thought it was a one-time thing, until a few weeks later, a similar thing happened to me. I made a needless 30-minute trip to their office because a receptionist with whom I made an appointment over the phone had entered my appointment incorrectly into their scheduling computer. When I arrived for what I thought was my appointment, the receptionist said, "Why are you here? You were just here two days ago." I was confused. I had NOT been there two days before; I hadn't been there for a couple of weeks and this was my first post-surgery appointment. Two receptionists continued… to insist that I'd been there two days prior. When they realized that I had NOT been there two days earlier, they accused ME of making a mistake when writing down my appointment about a week prior. They insinuated that I'd "heard the receptionist wrong" when I'd spoken with her when making the appointment. (I had written the appointment date and time exactly as she said it at the time that we were speaking). The receptionists even went so far as to say that I must have been mistaken when writing my appointment because they assumed I had been taking pain meds at the time of the phone call! (I can admit when I make a mistake, but THIS was not MY mistake). Even if it HAD been my error (which it was not), whatever happened to "The customer is always right"? The way the receptionists handled that situation was very inappropriate and unprofessional.

Dr. Dugdale operated on me 18 years ago when I sustained an acute, complex, traumatic knee injury playing high school sports. I was a new patient, yet he saw me the following day. He made the diagnosis of a complete ACL tear with two minor knee manipulations. An MRI confirmed that I had additional injuries - he said it was one of the worst cases he'd ever seen. Surgery was a necessity and he explained the procedure in detail. I was an overwhelmed, terrified teenager & he treated me (and my parents) with compassion. He openly discussed the potential negative outcomes while managing to offer my family & I reassurance that I would recover. He was available to speak to me leading up to the surgery & followed me closely post-op. (He even made a video recording of the surgery for me complete with commentary.) He did an additional procedure when scar tissue locked my knee - a concern he expressed following the surgery & in spite of the aggressive PT he ordered to try to avoid it. (My body's… faulty healing response was at fault, not Dr. Dugdale.) I saw him several years ago following a car accident. The injury was minor, but he validated my obvious anxiety - he didn't dismiss it as unreasonable overreaction. I also saw him a few years ago when my rotator cuff pain became severe & limited my range of motion. He gave me a cortisone injection & referred me to PT. He didn't jump immediately to surgery. He said that films would likely show damage, but regardless of what they showed PT would still be his first recommendation. I opted not to have them b/c frankly I didn't want to look at any more joint deterioration at that time. (He also took X-rays of my knees to establish a baseline for joint space narrowing. Fortunately, they looked excellent - no arthritic changes.) The simple fact is that I trust Dr. Dugdale's medical advice. He proves time & again that it is possible to be an excellent surgeon without sacrificing compassionate, accessible, attentive patient care. When I encounter a doctor who fails to meet these standards I routinely tell her/him that a higher level of care is possible, b/c I've received it, so s/he should aim a bit higher.

Dr. Dugdale took on a case with my knee after I had 2 surgeries that left me practically immobile. He was wonderful with helping to take on a surgery and knee repair that another doctor dropped the ball on. He took the time and care to do the surgery and now I am back to trail running, biking, snow shoeing and now even basketball. I have sent him race results so he can see what a difference he made in my life. I wouldnt ever hesitate to go to Dr.Dugdale if you want to be back out there and active after an injury!

Dr Dugdale did many surgeries to get me back on my feet after a horrific accident ten years ago. He did all this and deferred payment until I was through with the litigation. He has given me more mobility than either of us thought possible at the beginning. Super nice and caring guy as well.

I would highly recommend this doctor. His bedside manner and medical kknowledge is second to none! Awesome doctor.
