Dr. Harold Kirk Watson, MD

I broke/crushed four fingers of my dominant hand and saw at least 5 to 6 hand surgeons before I was lucky enough to have Dr. Watson suggested to me. This was 34 years ago. All the doctors said I would need my joints frozen due to pain, which would leave me with a claw. I was a jeweler by trade and not having the use of my hand was unthinkable. Dr. Watson didn't offer me much hope but he was willing to try. You know what happened? I did my phys therapy, and while I may not have full flexibility, I use my hand for everything with no pain. He saved me, he really did. I will be forever in awe of his skill. Sure, he can be a little arrogant...but who cares when he does such good work?

Both my son and I have had hand surgeries by Dr. Watson. My son was only 13 at the time of his surgery and it involved his wrist around the growth plate area. It was his second surgery because the first doctor in Waterbury had messed he first one up so bad. Dr. Watson was absolutely great. Completely fixed the bone that had gone dead. Replaced it with good marrow (without using pins like the first one) and with minimal pain (unlike the first one). He correctly diagnosed my son's problem and disease after two other doctors had the incorrect diagnosis. My surgery for a dislocated thumb that went back into place on its own trapping nerves and tissue with it was a complete success with no post operative issues. I was very happy. The only problem I had was the wait time in his office. Way too long

In 2005 I had bylateral carpal tunnel surgery, In 2006, I had ulnar nerve release and a ganglion removed from my wrist. Every visit I had with the Dr, he told me I had a little tennis elbow, Now, I have lost the sensation in my forearm and right hand, can not lift or do anything with my right hand and arm. He said I could work in 2006...I can't write small enough to fill out any job applications. I sought a second opinion which I was told i am not crazy. The ulnar nerve is damaged in an EMG comparison to one done in 2005 which was normal and one done in 2007 which is abnormal since I had surgery. I am currently on disability on the advice of the second Dr. The ganglion has returned and being right handed, I have lost the quality of living a normal life unable to use my right hand and arm. The ulnar nerve release is not revesable and now I live with pain(like you hit your funny bone) and frustration of not being able to function like a normal person. I was given a rating of 8 for… my hand and arm by the Dr. My second opinion Dr as well as the neurologist that did the EMG said it is permanent. The second opinion Dr gave me a rating of 41. He is not only a wonderful surgeon but a teacher as well at UCONN. I am awaiting a decision from the Commissioner of Workers Compansation,
