Dr. Thomas Alex Rockoff, MD

I had seen Dr. Rockoff (although doctors are supposed to do things and know things...which he does not!) for almost 5 years, all he had done was misdiagnose me (often), wouldn’t explain anything that was going on inside my stomach, and only caused me years of suffering due to his lack of knowledge! If you don’t want to waste your money, time, and quality of life you deserve, then save yourself the sufferings and do not go to him or any doctor in that office!!! I see obviously a new doc now who actually knows what was wrong with my body and was able to help me have a more positive quality of life.

He will not own up to his lack of empathy for his patients. For the high cost of insurance coverage, I would choose wisely.

It is like he is doing you a favor by seeing you. Should have been a physician who doesn't deal with patients directly, like maybe he should work in a morgue

I've had stomach issues my whole life and was recommended to Dr Rockoff by St Mary's Hospital in Waterbury He discovered an ulcer but couldn't give an answer of what caused it I know have 4 ulcers he have no info to why I had them or where they were I now am going to someone new and they only sent my records of the last test and not my whole file This is by far the worst dr I have ever been too So if you want to waste money with no answers to a problem you have this is the place!

I normally hate doctors. I really liked Dr. Rockoff. Very positive and made me feel comfortable. Helped me with my stomach problems.

Our primary MD referred us to Rockoff for a routine colonoscopy based only on our ages since we had no problems or symptoms to be concerned about. When we tried to make the appointment for the colonoscopy, his staff insisted we had to have a "pre-procedure exam" otherwise he would not do it. When we went for that "exam", he asked a few questions like what meds were we taking and were we having any "problems". At no time did he even hint at or do any type of physical exam. When asked why we needed this seemingly worthless visit beforehand when all the info he asked for was on the form we filled our or sent by our MD, his answer was essentially "because I said so". When we asked if he was aware that this "exam" would cost each of us 30% of his consultation fee after insurance payment, he essentilly didn't care - "Do you want the colonoscopy or not?" His attitude is rude, his bedside manner wanting, and it seems all he cares about is how much billing he can rack up.

I brought my child to be diagnosed by Thomas Rockoff and have never felt so disrespected in all my life. He was totally out of line and extremely rude to me in front of my two children. He first asked about my childs medical history, and asked why was he in., I explained stomach pains for almost two years now. I told him that we had seen the primary doctor multiple times for this in the past but were told he had constipation problems. This problem continues to recur despite the medications. I told him that I asked the Primary to test him for H.Pylori and was given a referral to come see Dr. Rockoff. I mentioned to the Dr. that I had been diagnosed with H.Pylori recently and so was my husband and it worried me. I told him I had done some research on the bacteria and it seems to run in families. I then said Im unsure and is why Im here to see you today for a checkup. At this point he sort of rolled his eyes upward and said: Thats not really not true H.Pylori does not run in families. He… then got really arrogant and started asking why would he check my son for this? I explained that I didn't know what was going on with this stomach and is ultimately why I was there to find out. I told him that I was really nervous about this H.Pyloir bacteria and that I had heard it can lead to stomach ulcers and even cancer. He without even performing an exam asked my child some questions. He asked how often does this occur? My child responded 1 or 2 a month. He said that's it, rolled his eyes again? He then asked for how long would it last, my child said it depends, sometimes taking a warm shower would make it go away. He feels burning and twisting enough that I have had to pick him up from school. Dr. Rockoff immediately then said you have a nervous stomach. Again, without even examining him he tells us your son has a nervous stomach I wouldnt' worry about it. He then looked over at me and said I wouldnt worry about it, okay?I then remained quiet to see if he was going to say something else or perform an exam being that my child did get undressed as he was told. He then repeated I wouldn't worry so much about H.Pylori especially if it's been a few months now that he isn't experiencing any pains and I don't believe he has this. At that point I said well if it's okay with you I'd like to have him checked anyway. He then started to get arrogant and asked why do I want to spend money on getting a test that isnt going to come back positive? I said because I had it and so did his father, and I do not feel comfortable bringing my child in to be check by a specialist that hasn't even examined him and is telling me there is nothing to worry about and nothing wrong with him. You have not done a test, felt his abdomen, or even blood work, what about asking for a family history etc? He said I'm not sure what I need to examine him for, and I dont appreciate you telling me how to do my job. If it will make you happy then I will examine him then paused and waited for an answer? I said yes please, he was being very sarcastic during this time and asked questions like do you know that some people go without even having 1 symptom with H.Pylori? I said yes I am aware of that. I then said I also know that it is unknown as to what causes this bacteria or how it's passed around. He then says well there is also no real evidence that H.Pylori causes stomach cancer. I said okay but it's a concern of mine and I'd like to find out please, and felt at this point we were having some sort of battle I felt like he was being punished for being a concerned parent. To make a long story short it felt like we were having a confrontation with each other and I even brought it to his attention. I asked him why instead of a conversation does it feel like a confrontation? He said you came here for advice and Im giving it but you wont take it. He continued to argue and kept saying he didnt understand why I had to have him check for this when it's nothing serious to worry about. I couldnt' understand why he had a problem about this I then told him that I was diagnosed by another doctor in this very same office and treated for the same illness why would I be treated if its not a serious issue? He then said Do you know that your child can get Colitis from the medication used to cure H.Pylori? I didnt answer and do you know it could result in death! My child was very frightened when he said this, looked over at me like mom no. The doctor was even more rude by ending that statement with, is this what you want? I couldn't believe this was the treatment I was getting, my tears filled up enough that my 7 year old whom was also present decided to get me some tissues. At this point I could tell both my children's smiles were wiped off immediately. The room felt very uncomfortable and my stress level was completely through the roof. I didn't know what to do next or even say. Then before I could even reply he tells me again I just don't get why you would want to spend the money on a test that will not mean anything, ultimately. If he's not having any problems now, why get the test? I said well I do pay for insurance and because I have concerns, I wanted to make sure my child was going to be okay. I wanted to get him tested to make sure he didnt have what I had along with any other suggestions you may recommend. He told me well there's nothing wrong with your son, and you are more than welcome to get a second opinion in a rude tone again. I answered that I understood my options. He ended it with if you want since you pay for insurance you can also get him a cat scan or even an MRI WOW how sarcastic! I said no thank you, I don't believe he will need that and by the way I'm not a hypochondriac it sounds like that is what you are insinuating.
