Dr. Thorsteinn Skulason, MD

Dr Skulason quickly dealt with all of my concerns, took a biopsy that confirmed his diagnosis and referred me to a surgeon who removed the cancerous cells. I will definitely see him again if I have the need and recommend him to others.

My initial meeting with Dr Skulason was very upbeat and positive. He prescribed me medication that started my healing immediately and within days I was problem free from my condition. He is well informed with medications offered today and talented doctor. I felt well cared for by this doctor who had listened to me.

I saw Dr. Skulason two years ago for a problem with a recurring cyst I have been getting for 18 years. He was in a terrible hurry. He injected the area but did not wait even 30 seconds to let it get numb. When he was done, he said to me that he took everything out and that I would never have another cyst. Hah! I have had 3 of them since then. I will be going to a surgeon soon which is what I should have done in the first place.

Rude, condescending, lacking care and thoroughness, and argued with me and demeaned me when I tried to explain my experience with my condition that I've been dealing with for the last 5 months (horrendous jock itch). He told me that I should stop using soap when I bathed because the soap was causing the irritation and we (people) have been programmed to think we need to always use soap. He also told me to quit using the OC topical treatment (lortrimin AF spray) and shooed me out the door. I followed his advice and within 24 hours my condition worsened. I called back to the office he works at and they can't get me in to see him or a different doctor for another month, even though I already waited a month just to get treated like absolute garbage and hurried away. DO NOT see this doctor.

Besides his offensive, mansplaining attitude that was jarring, condescending, and rude, he even failed to actually examine me! When I asked about a skin condition, and without even looking at it at all, he mentions an over the counter solution. When I asked about the "active ingredient," he sneered at me as if I was silly to want to know a follow up a question and said that the other ingredients were just perfumes and fillers and I need to look at the "active ingredient"...which is exactly what I was asking for! I have to see him once a month and I dread it. He does not respect me at all and it's always a painful interaction. I leave feeling worse about myself every time. He's so unprofessional and referred to other patients with mental health issues as "crazy." I find him very hurtful.

Dr Skuluson has been our derm. for quite a while. We followed him from Wauk. to Milw. because he has been right with the treatment and diagnosis of 3 types of skin cancer, the latest, 4 years ago, being melanoma. He is bright, kind and sometimes funny! We think the world of him and would never want anyone else. So we drive 40 miles to see him. He is so honest and straight forward. We appreciate him very much. j & C

Honestly, Dr. Skulason was the opposite of what I wanted in my visit to the dermatologist. He spent probably 5 minutes with me, and prescribed me a cream that a different dermatologist ( I switched of course) told me was completely inappropriate for my type of acne. P.S. - I usually do not like to "review" doctors online because I don't think it's an appropriate measure of their expertise, but this was a uniquely upsetting and repeated experience.

I have been seeing Dr. Skulason for 7 years for serious skin disease. He is always professional and friendly and he takes the time to explain the causes of disease and the rationale of the treatment. He keeps well-informed on my other medical issues and integrates my care with the other physicians. The staff is caring and skilled. As a retired medical professional who has worked with dozens of doctors, I give him top marks.

My appointments with Dr. Skulason were some of the worst experiences that I have ever had with a medical professional. He was out the door before I culd finish my questions! He did not review my chart and came me incorrect advice, that ended up being quite detrimental to my health! His office staff and nurse were quite rude and did not provide follow up care. If I was not a medical professional, I would have ended up in an even worse shape than I did. Please ask your primary care doctor for another referral.
