Dr. Valerie C Acevedo, DO

DO NOT TRUST THIS DOCTOR! She told me that I would benefit from seeing a psychiatrist because it’s “all in my head!” Can you believe that?! Thank goodness we got a second opinion!! From a real and caring, better educated doctor who took me seriously. Come to find out, it wasn’t all in my head... I had Presudotumor Cerbri! It’s basically having all the symptoms of a brain tumor without a tumor present to treat. It’s a terrible, life altering disease that causes Papilledema (optic nerve swelling) which can lead to being permanently blind. The disease causes too much CSF in my brain and spine. It causes so much intracranial pressure pain and severe migraines. I was so bad off that after we got the results from my lumbar puncture to check my CSF pressure, I was admitted right then and there to help me with the pain and to see if I needed a VP shunt placed in my brain and stomach to help drain the excess fluid. If I only listen to Dr. Acevedo, I would be suffering and would most definitely… have gone blind. She is untrustworthy and is wreck less.

If I could give zero star, I would! Do NOT go to Dr. Acevedo. I went to her after being in the ER several times and suffering from severe migraines that caused left sided paralysis, severe, debilitating back pain, speech difficulties, vision disturbances such as floaters, blind spots, blurry and double, my gait was off and have to walk with a cane (I’m only 35) numbness, tingling, 2 seizures and the list goes on. She did order a MRI and bloodwork. We went back a week later to go over the results and it was like she couldn’t remember who I was or even seeing us. Or remembered that I’m a seasoned RN. She hardly looked at the results, didn’t explain anything, she was spacey like she was on something and told me to just go see a Rheumatologist, no need to follow up, that what my husband and I described wasn’t a seizure, no need to treat my migraines or look into them further and that I would benefit from seeing a psychologist too because it seems like it’s all in my head. I was shocked! I… left there in tears and felt completely hopeless and crazy. But I pulled myself together and went to see a different Neurologist. It was a completely different and welcoming experience! He suggested that I may have Intracranial Hypertension. The only way to test it unfortunately is when I get a migraine I have to rush to the ER and give them an order that my new neurologist wrote up to check for the intracranial hypertension with a lumbar puncture. We’ll sure enough, I had one this weekend and went to the ER, they preformed the test and the pressure was extremely high and it confirmed the Intracranial Hypertension diagnosis!!!!! If I went off of what Dr. Acevedo said, I would be suffering and would go blind, go into a coma or even death!!!! DO NOT GO TO SEE HER PLEASE!!! She’s untrustworthy and doesn’t care about helping others.

Dr. Acevedo is a caring, skilled, detailed oriented neurologist. A fine practice.

Dr. Acevado does not follow up after ordering tests. She works on the edge of knowing about drug interactions and how patients will react. Does not listen to patients, or return calls. When you do talk to her, it is like she has a chip on her shoulder if you ask more questions about her recommendations. Learned the hard way as she endangered my wife, who almost died from her incompetence. She was angry when other doctors stated what she had done. Choose another doctor.

Very sweet and knowledgeable. She was able to help me with terrible headaches after so many others failed. I called her often to speak about my severe ailments and she never hurried me off the phone. Can't thank her enough!

She eased my mind by running test and taking time to talk to my husband and I. She is a great doctor

Terrible doctor and person. There was a mix up with my billing and she verbally attacked me over the phone. Even in our appointment prior to the billing incident she complained about obama care and how she wasn't getting paid enough. Very unprofessional and highly emotional calling me stupid over the phone. I have a military insurance that they said they would take and then later told me they would not take it. she said it was my responsibility to verify with my insurance that she takes it. And it was clear this was not her first billing mix up. I am literally shocked at her behavior.
