Dr. Verlia Cole Gower, MD

Dr. Gower has operated on all 4 of my children. She is very wise, caring, and will get your child what they need. Don't let any tough surface fool you, she cares a lot.

Worst wait time with young children. No consideration for parents. Needs improvement with bedside manner. Called us day of preop appointment to reschedule appointment with less than an hour's notice. Also stated they would cancel my son's surgery if we could not make new times. They were not accommodating, unprofessional and rude. Save your money and see an ENT with skill and bedside manner.

This woman has zero personality. I did not feel confident having her conduct a procedure on my child after meeting with her.

I took my son to this practice for issues with his ears. Everyone from the front desk to the lady performing the tests was just great. They were friendly, personable and seemed happy to answer questions. After the testing, we were placed in a patient room to wait on the doctor. The doctor on duty was Dr. Gower. She was not friendly. She was very rude to me. Did not smile. Did not even attempt to interact with my child. I had maybe 4 or 5 questions, which visibly bothered her as she would huff and sigh heavily as if I bothering her. Very shocked at her behavior. I considered she may have been having a bad day, so I checked her reviews out online after our visit and see many other parents having similar experience to mine. We will not see her again and would not recommend her to anyone.

The wait time was 3 hours with no apologies. Horrible bedside manners.

The Audiologist we saw was excellent, caring and thorough. Dr. Gower was not pleasant. As first time parents, we had many questions and concerns. We asked her the risks associated with the surgery and she simply stated, "the ones I have already mentioned". She did not smile and was not comforting. Needless to say, we will not see her again nor will she perform our daughters surgery.

Dr. Gower is a wonderful doctor. I love the fact that she called us directly about our daughter. My daughter loves her, and she always makes me feel that any questions that I have about our daughters condition and treatment is important. She does not talk at you..she talks to you and your child. I come from a family of doctors ... This lady is a gem..

I brought my son to be seen. She honestly could not be more rude to him or me. The staff was great! She never smiled or said anything nice..it was like we were in the army. I would not recommend seeing her unless you want to be disrespected or teach your children a lesson on how to be unsympathetic.

Very professional and up front. Caring and willling to take as much time as needed for our appointments and surgery.

I'm sure Dr. Gower is plenty qualified in her profession, but unfortunately, her bedside manner leaves much to be desired. If she would just smile...once... that would help! She appears grouchy, uninterested and in a hurry. My 16 mo old daughter has been to see several doctors in the past 6 mos, all of which I would bring her back to... except for Dr. Gower. I had heard negative reports about her, but thought I'd give her a chance. Oh well... live and learn.

Dr Gower has cared for my child since he was 1 years old. He is now 15 years old. She has been a wonderful doctor. She is knowledgeable and friendly. she has a calm and quiet personality that may come across to some as uncaring. She listened to my concerns and addressed them to my satisfaction. During painful events (which are at times unavoidable in a medical office) she was sympathetic to my son.

My son had impacted ear wax that was causing issues receiving a clear hearing screen prior to starting kindergarten. I made an appt to have it removed. Staff was great, no issues, nurse was very nice. Dr. Gower seemed nice enough, although not friendly, when we first met. She began the procedure, which I understood would cause some discomfort to my son, since his pediatrician had already tried removing the wax. I asked her about using drops to numb the ears and she dismissively told me "those don't work". Well, fair enough, but I asked her to please be careful since he was already worried about the pain from previous attempts.The first ear was going well until she did something to cause him to start crying. I comforted him as best I could and she simply seemed disgusted that he was crying. She started on the other ear and during this cleaning, he was screaming so loudly and pitifully that one of the office staff opened the door, perhaps to ensure she wasn't cutting him in half with a rusty knife. That's how awfully he was screaming. Now, as a mother hearing this, it was just terrible, but I tried to stay calm for his sake. As he screamed, she said "I've done this many times, it doesn't hurt. Some people just don't like things in their ears."?????? A child is screaming at the top of his lungs and you say, "It doesn't hurt"? My son is NOT a whiner - he had a urologist pull down the adhered skin of his circumcision after it had grown back to the head of his winky and he didn't make a single peep. When she finished, I told her "I appreciate that you have your experience and your professional opinion, but I tell you as the mother of this child, that definitely DID hurt him, whether you think so or not." She just looked at me as if I had told her the sky was blue. No reaction, no sense of understanding or even concern - we were just another annoyance in her day. I would say try using H2O2 (hydrogen peroxide) in your child's ears, 5 minutes at a time, over several days to 2 weeks to remove wax before ever going to this doctor. I had the foolish notion that because she was a woman, she might be a bit more careful or at least sympathetic to the child's plight, but I was dead wrong. She had no sympathy becoming to either a man or a woman. STAY AWAY FROM DR. GOWER.Also, after we got back home, I looked into his ears with an LED flashlight I'd been using while we had attempted H2O2 treatments before the visit, and there was clearly a bloody spot in his ear canal near the eardrum. I understand the nature of the procedure may involve some scraping of the tender skin inside the ear canal, but that definitely cemented my decision not to ever go back to her.

I have never been treated so badly by a doctor's office - or doctor - in my entire life. It was so humiliating to be treated like a nuisance and to wait 4 hours (trying to be squeezed in, which I should not have tried) only to never actually get to see Dr. Gower - only a well-meaning but amateur PA. You can do much better by your child than this office or doctor.

Dr. Gower was rude and condesending. the office staff was not willing to let me change md's. They also canceled my daughters sleep study appt as they thought there was an insurance issue (there was not) without calling us. they also failed to send in the information bcbs requested and now want to make me responsible for the bill.
