Dr. Vernon Eugene Smith, PhD

This psychologist raised my income-based fee when my income had actually decreased. That’s confirmed to be borderline poor practice by other experienced clinicians. He once angrily lectured me about a term I’d used that he thought was politically incorrect. It wasn’t. That’s called countertransference: when therapy is about the therapist, due to their unresolved personal issues. In session, he was pompous and overbearing. Finally, he consistently failed to provide bills without being asked several times, making it an ordeal to get reimbursed. These were failures in basic professionalism. Anyone considering therapy with Vernon Smith is well-advised to factor them in.

He is ok as a therapist. Loses paperwork or has typos. Unclear communication rules (regarding whether to communicate via text or email). Doesn't take any effort to add things to the calendar for the appointment. Did not add much insight into problems. Ended relationship.
