Dr. Virginia Annette Stewart, MD

"Did a good job with my laparoscopy to remove appendix. Qualified, honest, and clearly knew her stuff. Warning: Definitely not the warm and fuzzy type. Not a lot of patience, and lacked the “customer service” and bedside demeanor that people like me with major anxiety appreciate. But if you end up getting her assigned to your operation, I would do your best to look past that because she got it done and done well, and was very straight-forward and honest without risks/outcomes etc which I appreciated. Just seemed to have a bit of an attitude that she might want to work on being in this field."

Refused to give my wife proper support/service. First, Dr. Stewart falsely accused my wife of being an illegal drug abuser. She asked her "how long have you've been shooting up"? (Very inappropriate), My wife has scars as a result of military related illness (100% disability). Dr. Stewart saw her wounds and accused her of illegal user. Once confronted, with evidence of disability. Dr. Stewart later apologize but this was after her comments caused a very negative atmosphere at Maryview Hospital in Portsmouth VA, in which her whole staff were very rude and short with my wife. She would not give her pain medicine after surgery bc she thought my wife was abusing drugs based on her scars. My wife tried to explain to Dr. Stewart but Dr. Stewart did not listen and was very negative. This caused a ripple effect. As my wife was subsequently injured trying to seek help elsewhere. When Dr. Stewart could have helped her. Even if what Dr. Stewart mistakenly thought was true, she still… could have provided better service and proper care. Secondly, my wife returned to Maryview on another more recent visit . Dr. Stewart agreed that emergency surgery was needed. However, due to her past bedside matter and history, my wife requested another surgeon to perform surgery. Dr. Stewart replied "huh well if I can't do the surgery you won't have surgery " Then Dr. Stewart changed the official records and diagnosis to say surgery isn't required. Then discharged my wife with the same life threatening condition and pain she had when she was first admitted. In short, Dr. Stewart is unprofessional, she acts like a tyrants, she insults her patients. Her nurses act as minions. Her fellow Doctors at Maryview, concede and go along with her, even when they know she is wrong. This is highly unethical. Today my wife still hasn't received proper medical for this life threatening condition.
