Vishad V. Sukul, MD is the Section Chief of Functional Neurosurgery and Epilepsy Surgery for the Westchester Medical Center (WMC) and is an Associate Professor of Neurosurgery and Neurology at New York Medical College (NYMC). He is a fellowship trained, board certified neurosurgeon and a fellow of the American Association of Neurological Surgeons and Congress of Neurological Surgeons. Dr. Sukul's practice focuses on the comprehensive care of adult neurosurgical conditions within functional and restorative neurosurgery, including epilepsy surgery, movement disorders surgery, and surgery for chronic pain and spasticity. He specializes in and has extensive experience with procedures such as deep brain stimulation, minimally invasive epilepsy surgery, and neuromodulation procedures including spinal cord stimulation and intrathecal pumps.Dr. Sukul received his medical degree from Rutgers University: New Jersey Medical School. He completed his post-graduate residency training in Neurological Surgery at Temple University Hospital in Philadelphia, PA, followed by a fellowship in Stereotactic, Functional and Epilepsy Neurosurgery at Vanderbilt University Medical Center in Nashville, TN. Dr. Sukul's research focuses on clinical outcomes in neuromodulation and large dataset analysis of functional neurosurgery trends. He is also interested in the applications of augmented and virtual reality tools in the operative setting, as well as exploring the clinical applications of brain connectomics. His research has been published in numerous peer-reviewed journal articles and books, and he has been invited to lecture both regionally and nationally.Dr. Sukul is faculty in the WMC/NYMC neurosurgery residency program and is a dedicated teacher and mentor to both the neurosurgical residents and medical students. He is experienced in the training of functional neurosurgery fellows, residents and other surgical colleagues. He is actively involved in teaching neuromodulation techniques at the regional and national levels through the various national societies.Dr. Sukul is extremely patient focused, offering his patients the latest surgical techniques in movement disorder surgery, epilepsy surgery, and the surgical management of chronic pain.
