Dr. Waleed Lutfi Lutfiyya, MD

Over 13 years ago, at the age of 28, I was rushed into emergency surgery for a ruptured diverticulitis. I don’t remember much from those critical hours, but I know this: the surgeon who stepped in didn’t give up on me. He answered the call, showed up on short notice, and performed hours of surgery that saved my life. Later, he also performed the colostomy takedown that helped me return to a normal life. I’ve thought about him many times since—especially now, as I raise my daughter and two sons, who are now 17, 16, and 14. I just want him to know that I’m thankful for what he did. I hope this message serves as a reminder and maybe even some motivation to keep doing quality work on less-than-perfect people. Dr Lutfiya saved my life! Originally I had torn my colon in a motorcycle accident and was given a Colostomy bag. After several surgeries from General surgeons due to a leaking intestine and a failed colostomy reversal I was sent to see Dr Lutfiya. WOW! He was straight to the point and let me know exactly what he could do and set my mind at ease. I went to him for another colostomy reversal attempt. He was very honest and would not work on me until my body had healed from the previous surgeries. Make sense! After this he scheduled my surgery. The morning of surgery I was nervous. He came in smiling and let me know everything would be ok. My surgery was 8 hours!! I woke up in my recovery room and literally felt like I had only taken a nap. I felt great!! Not only had he successfully done my Colostomy reversal he also cut the huge scar off my stomach (From the previous surgeries) and made it look normal again. I literally cried I was so happy! He was a stickler about me getting up and… walking after surgery but I literally got up the next morning and began walking the halls. The nurses could not believe how good I was doing. I swear I didn't even feel like I went through surgery. Dr Lutfiya came to check on me in my room and was very happy to see me walking so much. I told him "Doc I feel so good I swear! This is crazy!" He just smiled. He ended up sending me home 3 days after surgery because of how well I was doing. (I was supposed to be there for 7 days). I am now about 7 months since my surgery and am doing great! I can not say enough great things about Dr Lutfiya. I wish I could call him everyday and say thank you! He changed my life literally! He is by far the best Doctor I've ever been to. Dr. Lutfiyya is a credit to his profession. He is a skilled surgeon, yes, but more than that, he is incredibly thorough, making sure that, as a team, we could make informed decisions about my healthcare. His bedside manner is friendly, kind, and jovial. I felt that I asked so many questions that I must have thrown his schedule off, but he always made me feel welcomed and never rushed. After my surgery, he came to see me every working day while in the hospital, and made sure I was well taken care of. His presence was a tremendous comfort to me while facing a long recovery. I wouldn't hesitate to recommend Dr. Lutfiyya.

My wife and I have nothing but praise and respect for Dr. Lutiffya. Over 5 years ago he took this middle aged couple that were terrified, made them believe in him and the cure - and succeeded. Never, never has he rushed us through an appointment. He knows me medically, but he also took the time to know us as people. We always try to get to be one of his last patients of the day so we don't throw his schedule off too much. No matter what time the appointment is, he takes time to answer questions and spends quality time with us. I am mow on a yearly check up with him - we will miss seeing him. Both my wife and I have come to think of Dr. Lutiffya as a personal friend. HE IS THE BEST! Kaiser is lucky to have him. We were very lucky that I was assigned to his care.

I have visited Dr. Lutfiyya three times over three years, initially for anal abscess, then for an anal fistulotomy surgery. Dr. Lutfiyya is simply the best physician I have ever met. He is so nice, very personable, and totally put me at ease when educating me about my surgical needs. I was really freaked about the surgery but it went perfect. In fact, I had no pain and didn't even take one pain pill. I have absolutely no reservations about him or his skill; he is truly exceptional. He takes all the time necessary to answer my questions and I have never felt rushed thru an appointment. If you are a Kaiser member, and require colorectal exam or surgery, I wholeheartedly recommend him.

I have had Dr. Lutfiyya for about two months. He has been very caring while being honest about my prognosis and treatment. He demonstrates a good ethic through his care, always seems to have time, and is a team player. I highly recommend him.

Dr. Lutfiyya is absolutely wonderful. By reputation, he is an excellent surgeon. He is caring, concerned and considerate. In spite of his extremely busy schedule, I always felt I was his only patient.
