Dr. Emper and his entire team are the best. They actually care about you before and after surgery. Before my knee replacement they told me what to expect, and after surgery they always got back to me quickly with answers to my questions. I highly recommend this Doctor and his staff to everyone.

Dr. Emper placed my ACL vertically and also chose a hamstring graft, which was not the best decision for me and my goals. I have had two surgeries since then due to my knee rotating around the vertically placed ACL graft. In addition to placing the graft vertically, he also drilled and placed the tibial tunnel too far back on my knee, causing interference with my PCL. I just had my ACL revision surgery along with a second meniscus repair so that hopefully a well placed and functional ACL can help protect my meniscus moving forward. If you look up ACL revision surgery you can read more about the common mistakes made which lead to a need to replace the ACL, Dr. Emper made all of those mistakes. He ruined 4 years of my athletic career, and has cause me two surgeries worth of pain and frustration with his negligence. The silver lining is that he placed my femoral and tibial tunnels so poorly that they don't even overlap with where they are supposed to be, which enabled me to have this… revision ACL surgery right away rather than after a preliminary surgery to bone graft the old tunnels.

Dr. Emper made the textbook mistakes in placing my ACL graft in 2012. If you look up 'ACL revision' surgery you will read about the reasons ACLs need to get replaced, they are often placement of femoral tunnel too centrally, and also a more posterior placement of the tibial tunnel. Dr. Emper did both of those things, essentially placing my ACL vertically through my knee and causing interference with my PCL. He also advised a hamstring graft which was the wrong choice for me and my goals. BTB patellar graft is the way to go for longevity of the graft. As soon as my poorly placed hamstring graft started to loosen up, about 4 years after surgery my knee started to spin around it since my vertically positioned ACL did not resist rotation at all due to its poor placement. I have since had one meniscus repair surgery for ripping up my medial and lateral meniscus. At that point we did not revise the ACL since it was not damaged and I did not seek 2nd and 3rd opinions on the knee. 2 years… later, I was feeling stronger than ever and I tore my medial meniscus again. This time around I went through with a revision ACL surgery along with the meniscus repair. The silver lining here is that Dr. Emper drilled my tibial and femoral tunnels so far from where they should have been, that I could have this revision and meniscus repair done in one surgery without needing to bone graft the old tunnels in a preliminary surgery. Dr. Emper ruined 4 good years of my competitive club ultimate frisbee career, and is to blame for 2 additional surgeries and the start of arthritis on the medial side of the head of my femur.

Excellent doctor that took care of my knee replacement surgery

He did an amazing job repairing my left knee approx 17 years ago and I work on a construction site and I have only had approximately 10 hours off pain since he repaired my knee.

Dr emper has fixed both of my mincus six years apart and I am having total knee replacement on my one kee the next year and I am not looking towards it but have 100 percent in the surgeon who will be doing this. After years of pounding from wrestling street bball and General abuse of them I will be looking forward to moving and jumping with my soon to be here my first grandchild and teaching her/him what life is for

Let me start out by saying that at one time Dr. Emper proabaly was a good Doctor, but since he "sold" out to Rothman Institute it seems he lost his way. He has horrible bedside manner, as if his Harvard Pedigree is above my Cornell Education. His arrogance or even waiting 2 hours in his packed Rothman waiting room wasn't even the problem. I wasn't even turned off to him after I was waiting for 2 hours and the door to the back opened and I watched him eating lunch on my time. I never felt I had a good surgery on my knee, it just didn't heal right. I want back to him and told him I was still in pain after 2 months and his response was "You will never feel better, the knee will never get better, there is nothing you can do, hopefully you can ride it out until you are old enough for a knee replacement" . Who says that?? Just 3 years later I had the same operation from a different surgeon and my operations could of been more different. After 5 weeks I feel wonderful. The knee Dr. Emper… did is a mess and I am now in the process of deciding when I am getting a knee replacement on it. The experiences I had with the same operations and different doctors prompted me to write this review. It is not my intention to slam Dr. Emper but with that being said: Shop around, you can do better.
