Dr. Yuri W Novitsky

I would stay away from this doctor if you dont want to be dismissed after 2 minutes of mesh being pushed without a through physical exam. He pushes his fellows and students heavily on you and relies on their verbal assessments and does zero examinations himself!

Exceeded expectations in all fronts, After 10 years of overdue hernia surgery, my spouse had hernia repair surgery with Dr Novitsky yesterday morning and the quality of care, patient education, and compassion from Dr Novitsky and his care team; including the anestheologist doctor with the very cool blue eyewear glasses; Consalvo NP, and assistants like Lisa, Sabrina, Courtney and others were above and beyond what we and our family has experienced in New York, Connecticut, New Jersey, MarylanFlorida or California. My spouse’s last surgery was over 20 years ago in Connecticut and at that time, they had a very tough time waking up after the surgery and had to remain in hospital two days - after that experience, they have been very worried of being put under general anesthesia so that fear had kept them from getting this hernia repair done earlier. With the good guidance of their GP on getting this hernia repair done now vs later, they decided it was time. After being told by another… hernia surgeon from another prestigious hospital that due to the size of the hernia, they did not feel comfortable doing laparoscopic repair, he consulted with Dr. Novitsky and his team - who after a thorough examination, felt confident that they could - unless they encountered any other unforeseen findings during the surgery. The surgery went well and the care that Dr . Novitsky and his team took in educating us about the surgery, and “listening” to the anesthesia concerns from previous surgeries was exceptional. Even as my spouse was about to be put under general anesthesia and started to hyperventilate - the simple compassionate act by Dr Novitsky’s anestheologist (cannot remember her name but she was the one with the very cool blue glasses) to place her hand on my spouse and let them know that it was going to be ok - that was true care at its best! My spouse was already coming out of the anesthesia when rolled back in the room and very thankful to Lisa, Sabrina, Courtney and others that even laughed at their bad jokes - but the good news on the bad jokes was that while they did not improve with the surgery or the anesthesia - they were a clear indication that they were back to normal. Thank you to Dr. Novitsky and his top team.

Messed up my surgery

He doesn’t care about you. Just another profitable surgeon who doesn’t care about you. He’s dismissive and has a horrible bedside manner He sees you for if your lucky for 3 minutes

Wonderful surgeon and supporting team. I had different operation the same week as my hernia and the distinction between Dr. Novitsky and his team vs that of the other surgical specialty is beyond night and day. Dr. Novitsky was excellent, responsive and caring as was his PA Tori. The entire experience was what surgery should be. Both surgeries were at NY-Presbyterian and this is not a hospital issue. It is a quality and professionalism issue., No one is better than Dr. Novitsky and his team. I have been an internist for over 30 years and would never send anyone anywhere else.

So I scheduled an appointment with a "hernia specialist". I made sure when making the appointment I explained my situation clearly. They told me yes the doctor handles those cases. Went to my appointment waited a month for the appointment. I bet there walt 2 hours or so. Get called in to see doctor. Give my previous medical/ surgical documents. Supposedly he read them Comes in the door. Immediately says I can't help you but tell me what's going on. Vaguely listens to me for all of maybe 2 minutes. Again says I don't handle those cases but 2 surgeons handle it gives me a pamphlet with those surgeons. Tells me I'll cancel your appointment and things your copay so your insurance doesn't get billed. Tells me. Make an appointment as soon as possible because those hernias are ticking time bombs. Then walks right out. If it is that serious a caring, compassionate doctor would have made the attempt to call those surgeons, his colleagues so I could be squeezed in somewhere

He did a great job on my very complex hernia. One of the best doctors I have ever met

I went to Dr. Novitsky because he was supposed to be the best. When he recommended surgery I trusted his word and scheduled it right away. After the procedure I find out the surgery was unnecessary and I would have to pay over 2,000 dollars in medical bills—this does not include lost wages. Dr. Novitsky did not consider any other option or do any test prior to my operation, in fact, he examined me for all of three minutes. When choosing a doctor look elsewhere.

I just had a paraesophageal hernia operation done by Dr. Novitsky 4 weeks ago, and I am very pleased with the outcome. I have had no problems with the surgery and glad to know everything is fixed. HE has a great team that works with him, and I would highly recommend him. He has a secretary that is also excellent her name is Regina and will help you with any kind of paperwork or other issues. They come and make sure when you are in the hospital that everything is ok, quite a few times.

Dr. Novitsky was very informative about my condition. He explained what I could expect if my condition was address, or what would happen if I choose not to correct it. Although the surgery was much more involved then first thought he did a wonderful job. Dr. Novitsky showed great care with my family and me throughout surgery and recovery. We feel, he and his staff communicated and updated us continually to let us know what was going on at all times. He truly saved my life.
