Never finished my fat grafting after breast cancer surgery but got paid from insurance would not recommend

Dr. Chang is not only an extraordinary doctor, he is also a wonderful person. He entered my life at one of my lowest points. It was 18 months after I had my mastectomy due to breast cancer which left me with lymphedema in my right arm and hand not long after my treatments. When I was diagnosed with the lymphedema I went for physical therapy, was wrapped and wore all the garments recommended. It seemed no matter what I did it only got worse. At one point I was told that I would have to learn to live with it and it would only get worse over time. My original surgeon was reluctant to perform any surgery. It was extremely disheartening. After much research and by some miracle I found Dr. Chang. At my first appointment it didn't take long to know I was in the right hands. I finally felt hope. He was compassionate, knowledgeable and explained all my options. I decided to proceed with breast reconstruction (Diep flap) at the same time as lymph node transfer and LVA surgery. I… can not be happier with my results. From the bottom of my heart, Thank you Dr. Chang (and Gabriella) for giving me my life back!

He displays such humbleness, despite his many great successes; yet he exudes a graceful confidence that provides me the comfort in knowing I am in very competent hands. I had the 'flap' procedure done using fat from my thighs instead of the belly, which presented additional complexity in connecting more intricate blood vessels. Not many plastic surgeons have such experience, let alone the expertise. Breast reconstruction is as much art as it is science. Dr. Chang uses both art and science to achieve perfection. My breasts look AMAZING. Not only do they look so natural but Dr. Chang was able to connect the nerves so that I can regain sensation in my breasts again. Having sensation in my breasts, albeit secondary, allows me to continue the quality of life I had before my mastectomy. Words can't express my gratitude and admiration… for Chang.

Few months ago, I learned of the devastating news of my breast cancer diagnosis. My doctor told me that because of the magnitude of the tumors relative to the size of my breast, it was not feasible to save the breast; hence, my only option was to have a mastectomy. Despite a negative result in my genetic testing, I made the difficult decision of doing a bilateral mastectomy, given my health history. With mastectomy, I would require breast reconstruction. The successful removal of the cancerous tumors was my primary concern, first and foremost. At that point, I had not given much thought about breast reconstruction. I did my own research and more importantly, I met with multiple surgeons to get second and third opinions to ensure that the recommendations and options were consistent among the different surgeons. What stood out for me with Dr. Chang were his compassion and the great passion he has for his line of profession, and in particular, in helping cancer patients like… myself. I was never treated like just another patient ID, unlike the other surgeons I met with. He is world-renowned in breast reconstruction, but there is such humbleness in him; yet he exudes confidence that provided me the comfort in knowing I am in very competent hands. Dr. Chang took the time to thoroughly walk me through all my options, offered me a wealth of information and addressed all my concerns to help me make the most informed decision. My knowledge helped me overcome my fear because I knew exactly what to expect going into, and coming out of, surgery. I opted for the 'flap' procedure, which at first wasn't an option for me as I do not have sufficient belly fat to reconstruct the breasts - which was the conventional method; however, he suggested that he could also try to get some fat from my thighs. Getting fat from the thighs is a more complicated surgery as it leads to additional complexity in connecting more intricate blood vessels. Not many breast surgeons have the experience, let alone the expertise, in doing the flap procedure using thigh fats, as it's non-conventional. Dr. Chang is truly a trailblazer and continuously innovates creative methods in breast reconstruction to offer patients more alternatives to traditional methods. The mastectomy and reconstruction took over 12 hours to perform. But sure enough Dr. Chang was there to check up on me when I awoke from my anesthesia (well past midnight). Not only that, he also spent additional time to speak to my worried family members to address all their questions and concerns. Dr. Chang took the time out from his busy schedule to check up on me every single day I was at the hospital (4 days). This speaks to the character of this great surgeon. Breast reconstruction is a bit of art and a bit of science. Dr. Chang uses both art and science to achieve perfection. He is a perfectionist. My breasts look amazing - I expected nothing less. He'd not only reconstructed my breasts to look so natural, but he went beyond repairing the aesthetics to connecting the nerves in my breasts so that I can regain some sensation. Dr Eric Chang is exceptional!! The first time I met Dr Chang he took his time to explain what was going to happen during and after my surgery. Dr Chang was very welcoming, had a smile on his face every time I saw him, and was courteous. I had a successful surgery and my recovery going great thanks to Dr Eric Chang and the amazing team at The Institute For Advanced Reconstruction at The Plastic Surgery Center. I highly recommend Dr Chang and his fantastic team. Thanks a mill! Dr Chang you are a lifesaver.

He was amazing, caring, deligent, and extremely professionall.

He is a professional as they come! I had a mastectomy and other surgeries to remove desmoid tumors that were opened up like a can of worms from a lumpectomy that the margins were never cleared. She actually still did the procedure and never heard of the disease Dr Sandalof from Pennsylvania hospila. I'm so sad to see Dr Chang go from Fox Xhasd but I will follow his where ever he goes. ??
