Summary

Kurt Sproul, ACMHC, believes that everyone faces stressors in life. The question he poses is, “how do individuals best cope and thrive?”He emphasizes that there are numerous tried and true approaches and evidence-based practices (EBPs) available to assist individuals in improving and excelling, regardless of their combination of troubles. When he is not engaged in activities such as planting trees or playing fetch with his dog Lolo, he enjoys collaborating with individuals to identify the causes of their discomfort (dis-ease) and work towards improvement. Kurt is deeply passionate about this endeavor. After experiencing the loss of his oldest son-in-law to addiction and suicide, he made the decision to pursue a master's degree in mental health and substance use disorders, dedicating himself to learning as much as possible. His education at the Hazelden Betty Ford Graduate School equipped him with the skills to address the entirety of a person's situation comprehensively, known as integrated recovery for co-occurring disorders. Kurt acknowledges the complexity and layered nature of each individual, as well as the unique combination of disorders that contribute to their unique dis-ease.At 68 years old, Kurt finds joy in living each moment to the fullest, embracing life breath by breath. Having experienced much in his lifetime, he looks up to a few heroes and offers recommendations to others, including figures like Dr. Shauna Shapiro, Deepak Chopra, Thich Nhat Hanh, Eckhart Tolle, and Dr. Bruce Lipton. He believes there is a wealth of knowledge and avenues for personal growth waiting to be explored.Kurt asserts that humans are inherently creators and explorers, yet they are sometimes hindered by outdated programming and skills. He believes that fulfillment is within reach for everyone, and it is what everyone deserves.
