Abin Sajan, MD

Dr. Abin Sajan is an interventional radiologist at Columbia University Irving Medical Center and NewYork-Presbyterian Hospital, specializing in advanced minimally invasive, image-guided therapies. His clinical interests include complex embolization, liver-directed interventional oncology, and the management of portal hypertension and complex hepatobiliary and vascular disease. He has particular expertise in embolization for chronic musculoskeletal pain, including genicular artery embolization for knee osteoarthritis, as well as prostate artery embolization for benign prostatic hyperplasia (BPH) and uterine fibroid embolization (UFE).
Dr. Sajan is an active clinical investigator focused on developing and evaluating novel embolization techniques and expanding the role of minimally invasive therapy across interventional radiology. He has authored more than 50 peer-reviewed publications and contributed to several first-in-the-nation clinical trials evaluating emerging embolization …therapies, particularly in musculoskeletal intervention. His research has received multiple top-paper and research awards and has helped advance the clinical evidence supporting these treatments.
Dr. Sajan's academic work has been recognized with numerous institutional and national honors. He was selected for the Silverman Fellowship at Columbia University Medical Center, a NewYork-Presbyterian–wide fellowship focused on healthcare operations, artificial intelligence, and quality outcomes. He is also the recipient of the Columbia Department of Radiology's Chynn Research Award and the Society of Interventional Radiology's Abstract of the Year Award, and his research has been supported by competitive grants from the SIR Foundation, including the Radiology Resident Research Grant and the Dr. and Mrs. W.C. Culp Student Research Grant.
Dr. Sajan completed his integrated interventional radiology and diagnostic radiology residency at NewYork-Presbyterian/Columbia University Irving Medical Center. He earned his medical degree from SUNY Downstate College of Medicine and his undergraduate degree from Macaulay Honors College at the City University of New York.
Dr. Sajan is passionate about medical education and enjoys teaching and mentoring medical students, residents, and fellows. He values building long-term relationships with his patients and is drawn to outpatient interventional radiology, where he can provide longitudinal care from initial consultation through treatment and follow-up. Outside of medicine, he enjoys spending time with his family and cheering on the New York Giants.
