Summary
An urgent care nurse practitioner is responsible for treating patients who need medical help immediately, particularly when their primary physician isn't available. In this career, you can also treat a variety of illnesses or injuries that don't require emergency room care. This job may require irregular hours, as many urgent care facilities are open late to provide service to those that need it after closing time for other care facilities. These unusual hours can include 12-hour shifts, which means you have more days off during the week. Other duties include checking vital signs and asking the patient about their symptoms. You are licensed to prescribe medication and give directions as to what the patient should do at home to ensure optimal recovery.
