Dr. Ahmad Nadeem Gill, MD

My father was diagnosed with colon cancer just a couple of weeks ago and we obviously wanted to have a second opinion due to the seriousness of the diagnosis and the informed treatment plan. After being diagnosed by the endocrinologist, we were sent over to Dr. Gill's office immediately (the same day). Dr. Gill reported the next step was to have a PET Scan done to accurately determine the diagnosis, placement of the cancer and the severity. He also needed this to further determine the best treatment (radiation and chemo or radiation, chemo and surgery). Therefore, we moved forward with trying to schedule the PET Scan. After 2 weeks of not having the scan scheduled and not hearing back from the office, I called to inquire about the status. The office manager initially said she was waiting on prior authorization from the insurance which was causing the delay. I took the initiative and called the insurance myself to get things rolling. After doing so, I called the office back and spoke to… the office manager who then said she was actually behind with the scheduling as a result of the holidays (totally understandable but not 2 weeks behind especially when you're dealing with someone's health and in cancer's case...life). She then said she would call me back by the end of the day with an update on scheduling. Two days later still no return phone call. All things considered, along with my mother's uncomfortableness with Dr. Gill and his less than empathetic bedside manner resulted in us wanting to obtain a 2nd opinion. After finding another physician by referral from my sister-in-law's doctor, I contacted Dr. Gill's office to request that my father's medical records be faxed to the new physician for a 2nd opinion. Within minutes of my request, I was contacted back by Dr. Gill's office to inform me that if we go for a 2nd opinion that we could not return back to his office as a patient. I was blown away! I had/have never heard of anything like this before in my life. I verbalized this to the front desk operator, Anita. She could not give me any info as to why this was acceptable or a policy of theirs. She went on to inform that the office manager had also indicated that she had stopped all work towards obtaining prior approval from the insurance as well as scheduling the PET Scan if this was in fact something we would be doing (obtaining a 2nd opinion). I immediately informed that we absolutely will be moving forward with the 2nd opinion and have no problem with not returning to his office. Take this review for what it's worth. My intent is not to deter anyone from going to see Dr. Gill or from securing him as your preferred physician. This review is only meant to inform you of my family's experience. I have every plan to continue to investigate the legality of his policy (to not accept patients that want a second opinion) and to move forward with trying to support my father in the best way we can as a family. Good luck to all of you struggling with family illness and trying to support your families by finding the best care. It's physicians and doctors offices like these that make an already difficult time much more traumatic for the families. In the end the patient is the one that suffers. Dr. Gill's staff forgot to tell him about the appointment and he arrived in my room without having looked at my file. Those things happen. However, since he had not looked at my file, it seemed inappropriate that the first words out of his mouth were "I would get my financial affairs in order." Needless to say, I decided that I would not be treating with Dr. Gill.

He is a truthful doctor who cares about all his patients. Very funny and serious when he has to be in the office. He is very kind, and excellent bedside manner. He not only tell you what you want to hear, but what you need to hear. He is an awesome if your loved one has cancer he is first choice.
