Dr. Alan David Baribeau, MD

I have been seeing Dr Baribeau for over 21 plus years and I would not trust anyone else to take care of my glaucoma. He is the best , and his office staff is awesome . He does run behind but most of his patients are elderly and he takes the time to explain everything to them .

I have been seeing Dr Baribeau for over 19 years for my glaucoma . I am totally comfortable with him and his knowledge. Has performed laser surgery to relieve eye pressure . He does run behind and the wait time is long but he does have an older patients population and takes the time to listen to them and teach and explain everything . He is worth the wait in my opinion

I have been going to Dr. Baribeau for a couple of years now. I will say that Dr. Baribeau has exhibited himself to be an excellent and caring physician. However, I have found the entire running of his office to be extremely inefficient and on a level that is totally unacceptable. Most staff members have been pleasant and respectful when greeting patients coming in. They are always verbally expressing platitudes and blessings from God -- which is all wonderful, good, and appreciated. However, that needs to be backed up with actions and demonstrated consideration and caring for patient TIME. Severe overbooking of patients appears to be the NORM in this office. Each time I have been there, the wait time (to actually be seen by the doctor) has been an average of at least two hours (and yes, I am still taking into consideration the needed time it takes for eye dilation wait times). Signs have been found prevalently posted on and around the front desk area, forewarning patients… about being charged for missed appointments or ones that the patient is having to change without enough advance notification to their office. YET -- this office appears to have a normal process of making patients wait inordinate periods of time for needed care. There have been too many staff communication errors to cite here. Without going into too much excessive detail, I have also found the technical staff in this practice to be very remiss. Just as one example, on one visit I was placed into a tiny little area with barely enough room to turn around, to have a visual test performed, and because I was not positioned correctly, a skewed line appeared on the test outcome. Upon returning (at a later date) to actually have my test results reviewed by the doctor, needed pertinent information had not even been uploaded yet into my records in the system, preventing the doctor from being able to go over the test results with me at that time. On another prior visit, I specifically informed the front desk personnel, as well as the TWO (2) technicians I encountered when I was first called in, that I wanted to have my eyes checked for replacement eye glasses while I was there on that visit, if POSSIBLE (something they never told me up front that Dr. Baribeau normally does not personally handle). I was later told (two technicians into the visit) that his associate (Dr. Eric Casillas) does do routine optometry services and that this person would be available to assist with a refractory exam on that same visit. After being sent back into the waiting room, and waiting another two hours to see Dr. Casillas, however, I was not able to get the refractory exam after all because the first technician I spoke with had already put dilation solution into my eyes (AFTER I had already told him I wanted a refractory exam). This meant that the results would be skewed and I still had to reschedule to come back yet again, days later, to wait another over 2-hour period to be seen by the "correct" doctor. I also do not feel that I was given the correct lens prescription (which the optometrist had determined needed to be weaker than the one I had been using for the past several years). I do NOT see as well (at all) with the new replacement RX rendered by Dr. Casillas (my former RX from my prior optometrist was much better). I was needing to replace the RX for the sole purpose of being able to purchase new frames. Overall, communication, all the way around in this practice, is poor. The reason I am never coming back, however, is the blatant, constant, and ONGOING disrespect for patient TIME.

I highly recommend him , Me, And one of my brother both got cornea transplant , me on one eye my brother on both eyes, and my grandmother both eye with cataract. we all got good results.

Dr. Baribeau is a good DR,. BUT THE WAIT TIME IS TOO LONG.

Dr Baribeau will be performing eye surgery on me later this month. So far I have been extremely pleased with all of the office visits, etc.

I highly recommend Dr. Baribeau. I had RK surgery with Dr. Baribeau over 20 years ago when I was 24 years old. Dr. Baribeau was the only doctor who would operate on my eyes (I was nearly legally blind). All the other doctors turned me away. Since the surgery, I have been able to enjoy a life of good vision. The reason you have to wait a long time in the waiting room is because Dr. Baribeau is the the best doctor in San Antonio, and everybody wants to see him. He does not turn patients away. He sees everyone and spends a lot of time with each patient. Dr. Baribeau is a brilliant man, who even does surgeries on or around major holidays, like Christmas and Thanksgiving, in order to accommodate his patients. He sees patients constantly. He never seems to tire, even though he is constantly working with patients. . Now that my husband has glaucoma, my husband sees Dr. Baribeau after unsatisfactory care from other ophthalmologists. My husband Is also extremely pleased and thankful for the… level of care he receives from Dr. Baribeau. Dr. Baribeau has been able to reduce the rate of deterioration of my husband's glaucoma in a way that other doctors could not do. I highly, highly recommend Dr. Baribeau. He is brilliant, talented, kind, and very concerned for his patients well-being. He is passionate about his profession.

My last appointment was at 9;30 am. I still hadn't seen the doctor at 11:15am when I had to leave to go back to work. Before that, I had an appointment for 4:00 pm. I finally saw the doctor at 7:15pm. This is not an exaggeration, these are actual times I spent in his waiting room.

Expect your doctors appointment to take up half of your days time.
