Dr. Alan Glen Finkel, MD

Doesn't listen. Rude. Stay away.

I have been in Dr Finkel’s care for over 4 years and am grateful to have been referred to him. Prior to seeing him I had been evaluated and treated at 7 pain centers and by multiple headache specialists, including internationally recognized terciary care specialists. I have improved significantly under Dr Finkel’s care. He listens carefully and is extremely knowledgeable about post traumatic headaches. I highly recommend him for anyone with a headache disorder.

My husband was a State Trooper who was dragged a little over half a football field. After several years of surgeries and still no relief we finally got in to see Dr.Finkel. He was spot on with diagnosis and with testing. I am beyond relieved that my husband is finally getting the treatment he needs. You will never find a better MD than this one.

Dr Finkel is quite simply the best. His knowledge of migraine and treatment is leaps and bounds over every other physician I have seen. The staff is helpful and caring, and the often go above and beyond to help with any issues I may have. I have finally found a headache clinic that knows how to treat me as both a consumer and a patient.

While Dr. Finkel did spend time with me, and made my mother and me feel as though he cared, it turns out he didn't. After suffering migraines for 10 years (starting out as sporadic, at best, then moving to cluster headache, then chronic daily headache), I was told to visit Dr. Finkel, as he is the "end all, be all" of migraine specialists in NC. Boy, is that the biggest lie in the world. PLEASE save your time and thousands upon thousands of dollars and do not go to Dr. Finkel. After initially trying Lyrica, and then two other medicines, in the span of about 3 months, without giving any of the medicines time to fully work through my system, I was placed on a five-day IV treatment. This was referred to by the doctor as the "last ditch effort" and "if this doesn't work, then nothing will." These IV treatments required driving 2 hours each way from my home and being in a room hooked up to an IV for 4 hours each day for 5 days. After these didn't work, I called back for a follow-up… appointment, as instructed by Dr. Finkel, and was told over the phone by the doctor, "There's no need for a follow-up appointment or for you to come back. I can do nothing else for you." He gave up on me as a patient and didn't try his best to reach the root of the problem.

Dr. Finkel has been my doctor since the fall of 1987. At that time there wasn't much of any kind of treatment for my extremely, severe and consistent migraines. Additionally, my migraines were impacted by additional severe disabilities. While other dr.s kind of put me on a back-burner because they didn't know what to do, Dr. Finkel never gave up. He was always there, and very often that was the only kind of medicine for my migraines. I still see him every few months to check-in, but my migraines are now well under control. I believe he's an excellent dr., and I have very high standards for medical professionals. When he believes he can do something, or help in some way, he does not give up. D

The questions asked in this survey have much more to do with rating the management of the office than of rating the doctor himself. This doctor is arrogant, and therefore doesn't really listen to what the patient is saying. During my history of approximately 10 visits to this doctor, I was given conflicting information and I witnessed extreme mood swings by the doctor from one visit to the next. I would NEVER recommend Dr. Finkel!

Dr. Finkel spent more time with me than I thought he would. i liked that he listened to me and gave me good options.
