Dr. Alan B Grosset, MD

I first met Dr. Grossett in my hospital room late in the evening. I did not have cancer, I did however have a mystery blood clot in the portal vein of my live. Dr Grossett sat on the bed next to me pen and paper in had an explained in detail what was happening to me, and what we were going to do. I even participated in a woman's blood clot study. To learn that I have to be on a blood thinner for life. I went through a difficult personal time, and Dr Grossett was so kind, helpful even offered to be my advocate. When I received the letter in the mail that we were loosing Dr Grossett because Kootenai Medical Center was going in a direction he didn't agree with. And boy was he correct. I miss you Dr. Grossett. Dr. Grosset was advised by John Wayne Cancer Center, California, to do MRI's on this patient every 6 months. When deceased patient, V. Neil Dredge, made an appointment with Dr. Grosset, Dr. Grosset misdiagnosed Mr. Dredge and suffering with anxiety, and did not do an MRI. Several months later Mr. Dredge collapsed with a ruptured, orange size melanoma brain tumor and was dead in 2 weeks. Dr. Grosset totally missed doing an MRI when it was small and could have been treated.

They often don't prescribe radical treatment for 79 year olds. But without that I would definitely not be here today. And although it was intensive it was something I could get through and then do well.

I had several options for my situation. This doctor was able to help me weigh the pros and cons. My decision was helped a lot by my consultation.

I met Dr Grosset when the diagnosis was stage 4 inoperable rapid growing brain tumor, less than one year to live. He CARED. He told my husband exactly how he would treat him and became a good friend to him along the way. Was always present mentally and physically. Very kind and funny. My husband loved him throughout his 6 YEARS of treatment. After he passed, my children begged to visit Dr Grosset in order to thank him for all the extra time we got to spend with their dad. I would highly reccomend!

If they would thro in a facial and pedicure as I waited for him everything would be great. That's the only extra thing I need. As for medical care, I get the best.

Dr. Alan Grosset was my Doctor for over 10 year's until he was FORCED to moved to Miami Florida. Throughout ALL those year's I found him to be a very very compassionate as well as a highly intelligent Doctor! He truely cared about my medical treatment as well as me as his patient! Coeur d'Alene's loss is Miami's gain regarding Dr. Alan Grosset! Miss you soooo much Doctor Grosset!

i just have to say that of all the oncologists I met at his workplace only he had the courage to tell me the difficult news about my dad, and then go on to treat him compassionately and with open and flexible human touch; stil touch base occasionally by email

At first Dr. Grosset was confident and aggressive in treatment of a difficult case. However, he clung perseverantly to an inappropriate course of treatment, even when being questioned by several other doctors. He used manipulation to get the patient's family to force treatment on the patient. Because of his extreme stubborness, I would discourage anyone from choosing him as their doctor, which is unfortunate because Dr. Grossett is normally quite bright.

This is a very bright doctor, who unfortunately does not have the interactions with his patients that match his intellect. If you like the doctor who tells you what you are going to do and you obey one hundred percent, then he may be for you. If you want him to work as a team with another specialist or question his diagnosis, then he won't be for you.
