He is condescending, narcissistic, and does not care about what is best for his patients at all. He cares about what procedures he can do to make the most money. He does not listen to me. He lied to me. In the end, he was going to do a surgical procedure on me that I did not need. I got two other opinions and fired the man. I would not trust him. There are many options and I would recommend you ask around and let him be your last.

Dr. Guerron Cruz is an excellent doctor who loves his work in weight loss surgery. He is also a general surgery and I could not ask for a better doctor. I would not want any other doctor operating on me.

I had duodenal switch surgery with Dr. Guerron in September 2017. He was not only willing, but appeared pleased, to discuss the surgical options and variations to each procedure, and current bariatric research. He answers questions thoroughly and easily switches the depth of explanations dependent on the knowlege base of the patient. I always felt respected during interactions. I wouldn't describe him as warm, but clearly cares about his work and performing to the highest standards while also teaching the next generation of bariatric surgeons to have similarly high standards of care. I would without hesitation recommend him to those considering bariatric surgery. He currently works with Duke. The rest of my review is concerning the Duke metabolic and weight loss medical team. This does not include the rest of the surgical team or nursing team, all of which I found excellenent. In general I have had positive experiences with the rest of the Duke team, although find some… aspects lacking, such as not thoroughly exploring the different surgical options and having these discussions individualized. The pre and post op visits are mostly in group format which I do not feel is the most effective. The dietary recommendations are very geared towards gastric bypass and I feel are not accurate for people who have had the duodenal switch (with sleeve patients somewhere in the middle). The medical team was not concerned that I had depleted iron stores beforre surgery and after adequate trial of oral iron. I had to do quite a bit of self-advocacy to get a needed iron infusion, which took place a couple weeks after surgery (by that time as I predicted I was moderately anemic). Dietary progression is presented as medical necessity, instead of guidelines to serve as a start point and then individualized. The supplementation recommendations will likely be inadequate for most people who have had the DS. The bottom line, please take what you hear from the team with a grain of salt and do quite a bit of outside review of information and connection with veterans of the surgery you choose.

Reserved demeanor but answers all questions a nd explains things thoroughly. I felt very comfortable going into the surgical procedure. Highly recommend!
