Dr. Alice Myonghae Shin, MD

I am desperately looking for another doctor. I am 69 years old and need a doctor I can trust.....that is all I will say.

wouldn’t accept care from her or her team again, even if it were for free. after 4 losses, suggested we wait until my next loss to assess recurrent loss bloodwork.

My first visit with Dr. Shin was great. I deal with some past trauma and don't always feel safe -- not even with doctors. Dr. Shin was very attentive on her first visit. However, after that, I let my personal care slip and didn't see any doctors for a couple years. When I finally got my life back together I called to make an appointment with Dr. Shin and was told that I'm "no longer considered an active patient" because I skipped two years. I think its wrong to punish patients for anxiety or other life issues. In either case, they said the wait time for "new" patients was like 6 months, or I could see a different doctor sooner. Because of the level of comfort I felt with Dr. Shin the first time I opted to wait half a year to see her. When I finally showed up...Dr. Shin sent some medical assistant to complete my appointment. I didn't see Dr. Shin AT ALL; I saw a completely random person and might as well have not waited half a year. Furthermore, this medical assistant (though very nice… and personable) wasn't able to give me sound advice. We spoke about vitamins, and i KNOW that the vitamin field is filled with sub-par products with tons of additives and fillers. I asked her for a brand recommendation and was told to "just use whatever is cheapest". No thanks. I won't be returning to Dr. Shin's office.

I had a terrible labor experience. My pregnancy was fine, but most of the time, Dr. Shin was in a rush and I felt like I was just a number there. My first baby was estimated to be around 10 pounds (did ultrasound 2 days to estimate that before my labor and no one followed up on that), they still had me try vaginal birth for over 20 hours at Beth Israel, which ended up with a C-section. One week after I was discharged, I got incision infection. Before then, I called Dr. Shin's office and told them I was having fever. They were supposed to know that having fever during the first month after giving birth could be something very serious. The office told me Dr. Shin was not available and I had to see a nurse who told me my incision was just skin infection and diagnosed me with clogged duct, and prescribed some antibiotics for it. The next day, my incision started oozing, and my husband drove me to the hospital, where they cut my incision open and I was hospitalized for another 4 days. It… was very painful and it took me about 3 months to recover, at least for the open wound to close. Every one in my family was mad at them. They knew I was having a big baby (who was born 10 pounds 9 ounces) and I have a tiny body, so they shouldn't have had me try so long for vaginal birth; also after I was discharged, the whole practice didn't take my fever seriously, which led to the serious infection. Very disappointed and will never go back.

I'm still in the process of being evaluated by Dr Shin. Hopefully my outcome will be good. She is right on top of what your problem is. I can't say enough about her. She is sending me for a lot of different tests right now, but she is so hands on. Dr Shin has been in constant contact with me every step of the way. She personally calls me with results and to tell me what's next. She sets me up with any doctor I need I need to see, and her office makes all the necessary appts that I need.

I went to see Dr. Shinn last year as a new patient and she saved my life! I was a new patient there for an annual exam. She spent a lot of time talking to me and taking my history! I felt very comfortable talking with her and during my exam she did find something wrong. She did some additional testing and found that I had an early stage of endometrial cancer! She immediately sent me to see a Gyn oncologist who performed surgery and also saved my life! My oncologist told me that I was extremely lucky that Dr. Shinn caught my cancer in its early stages. He said my type of cancer isn't usually caught this early and I was extremely lucky that I had such a good doctor that found it! Dr Shinn was extremely supportive to me during my diagnosis and my treatment. She also called me after my surgery when I got the good news saying they were able to remove all the cancer. She is a wonderful Doctor!

Rude and lazy billing and medical office staff when it comes to trying to resolve any billing issues. Each of the offices points the finger at the other. Ask for a supervisor and get put on hold with no one ever picking up. Eventually promised to resolve issue, only to have nothing at all happen.

Very impersonal and disorganized staff. Doctor had commented on how dry I was during pap smear as it was very uncomfortable yet offered no advice. A month later I finally get a call from the nurse about my abnormal pap results. And was told they will see me in another year. That was it.

Another egotistical Doctor that is not looking to be a partner in your healthcare but rather get you right out the door as fast as possible as another number coming through the assembly line. Was rude, abrupt and not willing to spend the time to discuss options. What she says goes and she does not care about your concerns, questions, etc. Very unsympathetic and cold.

I am a doctor and I appreciate Dr. Shin's no-nonsense but caring approach. She is blunt and is quite busy, but I felt she spent plenty of time with me. I went to see her because of a recommendation by another doctor for her ability to handle high risk pregnancy. Though I have not finished my pregnancy yet, I am confidant in her abilities as a doctor.Because she is busy it is hard to get in to see her and the wait at the office is somewhat annoying, but I personally believe these to be worth it.I would recommend her to friends and family.
