Dr. Alison Black, DO

Unfortunately, I have to concur with the low reviews. I like Dr. Black's direct nature and that she doesn't mince words and went to her a few years. However, problems always occurred when I asked questions: She is dismissive of concerns. I had a procedure under her care for possible cancer. The procedure was incredibly painful: While doing my best to breathe deeply through it and not scream, she made a condescending remark about my being dramatic. Instead of being encouraging and supportive, she put me down. I called repeatedly for my results, was told they weren't there, and then, when I got a call later, I was told they'd been there for weeks. Finally, when I had follow-up questions about next steps, I was told it wasn't cancer - what else did I want? I lost confidence in her ability to care for me because it seemed her dismissiveness stemmed from her own incompetence. After 30 years at Fair Ridge OBGYN and very positive experiences with other doctors, I finally left after several… months of terrible experiences with Dr. Black.

Allison Black is a demeaning and rude Dr who has a complete lack of empathy for her patients. She completely brushed me off during pregnancy with concerns I had about a medication and there being a warning right on the label stating it’s dangerous to use in pregnant women… her response was “I don’t know what to tell you except Tylenol has warning too”. And I was unlucky enough to have her be the dr on call when I delivered my son. She acted like I was a huge inconvenience to her the entire time. You could tell she was annoyed that I was trying to do a natural birth. One of the first things she said when she walked in was “I would have started you on Pitocin at 8am if I were here” (thank god you weren’t) which completely disregards my birth preferences. She seemed annoyed every time the nurse had her come check me. I could even tell the nurse was getting frustrated by how hard she had to work to even get her to come in the room. When it came time to push, I pushed for a while with my… amazing encouraging nurse. She was letting me know she was seeing him and I was doing good and making progress. Dr Black comes in to check… and not even addressing me, smugly goes “Nope. No change. I don’t think she’ll deliver vaginally. Her pushing technique is just not there.” After almost 24 hours of labor how demoralizing is that! And she was obviously wrong because not more than 30 minutes later my son was crowning. She came back in after I heard the nurse having to argue with her saying “I’m sure. No I’m sure. I wouldn’t call you in if I wasn’t sure”. Dr Black didn’t believe I would be able to do it. During pushing mid contraction Dr Black goes “STOP!…Look at me… you are Waisting. Time.” Cuz I was making too much noise for her apparently. Everyone was shocked at how unbelievably rude she was! I really felt like she wanted me to fail and she wanted me to end up with a C-section because that would be the fastest thing for her. I really really liked the staff and every other Dr I saw at FairRidge during my whole pregnancy. It’s a shame that for any future pregnancies I’ll be finding another office because I can’t risk ending up with Dr Black again.

Dr. Black was my GYN and how I wish I never met her. I have many physicians in my family and have great respect for them generally. She was referred by my PCP, so I gave her a chance. Even before sub-par care that resulted in preventable life-threatening emergency surgery, she was dismissive and sloppy. Even the nurses in the ER (landed there due to extreme blood loss) said I needed a second opinion, stat. Black's "treatment" of my anemia was ironically what led to severe blood loss from an IUD (with abysmal follow-up) which had punctured my uterus, resulting in hemorrhaging so severe that I needed multiple emergency blood transfusions. I did find a FAR better surgeon who saved my life! I am eternally thankful, while Black showed a stunning lack of empathy,a pattern. Dr. Black's neglient care resulted outrageous, unnecessary medical bills (even with insurance) and extensive trauma that my mind and body will never forget. I have never once said this publicly about a physician, but… please avoid Black at all costs!

If I could give ZERO stars, I would! She is a horrible doctor and I suggest no one go to her! Her lack of empathy is just unbelievable and I’m shocked that she has her license in medicine. I started going to the office and some how got stuck seeing her every time, other doctors were booked and she would be the only one having availability soon. I’ve had some issues, very painful periods, and random spotting/bleeding through the month. I shared my concern with her multiple multiple times, she had me get a sonogram And they found a fibroid. We scheduled a procedure, and she supposedly removed it. But I continued having the pain and the bleeding. I went to her and called her multiple times with my concern and i kept getting brushed off saying to wait it out. Eventually I went to see her and she prescribes me simpesse (BC for 3m so I don’t get my period often), I started it and 3 weeks later, i started bleeding and it continued for many weeks and her and her nurse kept telling me it’s… normal. I then started with the unbearable pain and still, they said “its normal, just wait”. Well I couldn’t wait anymore. I went to another doctor who realized the fibroid wasn’t completely removed. Mind you I paid for the first procedure and now i had to get another one. It’s ridiculous Dr. black did not do a follow up sonogram knowing that I was in unbearable pain after the procedure. I know the difference between cramps and unbearable pain. I was completely out of commission when this pic would start and it would last hoursss at a time. This pain reminded me of when I had contractions with my kids. Turns out my uterus was trying to contract that fibroid. I have reached out to dr. Black with my concern and as usual with her cold self, she has not responded. I will make sure everyone knows what kind of cold, careless doctor she is. She took all my concerns as nonchalantly as she can and didn’t care about my concerns or my pain. Who can live like this?? Which I’ve asked her! She made it seem like i was making a big deal out of nothing. Unbelievable! Avoid her at every cause! Don’t waste ur time, money, or pain!

Was very rude, talked down to me. I asked her why she was acting like that, and she was like "I don't know what to tell you"

Wonderful, caring physician. She delivered both of my babies and I would highly recommend.
