Dr. Allyson Ann Askew, MD

I remember 10 years ago. We went in because something was amiss with our son. There was something foreign in his body. Dr. Askew operated on him and took out a baseball size tumor on the left back wall of his abdomen. She saved his life. She was kind. She was thoughtful. She was a blessing to us in so many ways. She understood we were completely out of our element and never for one second made us feel anything less than loving concerned parents facing something unspeakable. Our son was later diagnosed with stage 1 neuroblastoma. I remember a lot from the week we were there. The nursing staff fell short in so many ways from telling us that we were part of the Make a Wish Foundation and we could get anything we wanted for our son (all before being given any diagnosis) and "wasn't that great" . . .to telling me they were a berevement specialist and when I asked the nurse what that was she said she "helped children die" . . .(again, all before official diagnosis or staging) . .… .Those two instances were the two major highlights (or should I say lowlights) in a very surreal week. The one bright spot in an unspeakable week was Dr. Askew. I'll never forget the tears in her eyes when I thanked her for saving my son. I remember her expression as if it happened yesterday. She is our hero during an unspeakable time. I'm sorry others have different perceptions but that is not the woman we know and remember. God bless Dr. Askew. Our Michael will be 14 in a month. He is in full blown "butt-head teenager syndrome" and although there are days when I could pull every last hair out of my head for the challenges he presents, I am grateful every single day that he is here to aggravate, challenge and ultimately inspire me. He is a loving child with an opinionated spirit. Thank you Dr. Askew for saving him so that we could experience all of it.

Dr. Askew placed my daughter's port for chemo. She did a poor job. What is a simple 20 min procedure took over 2hrs. My daughter came out of surgery with a drainage tube coming out of her rib cage because she bleed out into her chest cavity and had to spend the night in the PICU. I was willing at accept this as a random occurrence, but then Dr. Askew would not come to check on my child after the surgery. After repeated requests by our nurses to come and look. She asked for an iPhone picture once and one time she when she was supposed to come by to take a look at her botched work she was gone golfing for the day. Then she approved stitches removal (on a wound that shouldn't have happened) without coming to look at the hole on her side and the wound was not ready to have stitches removed and it reopened and the stitches had to be replaced. After our negligent after care experience, I am now convinced that she messed up the original surgery. Otherwise own your work. BEWARE!

This physician only came in to check my daughter when she ( the dr. Was on call ) She came into the room, introduced herself..so far so good.. Examined my daughter...so far, so good..then, I had the audacitity to ask when my child could go home. Well, she looked at me as if I had asked when my child could have her head removed. Went through a condescending but brief review as that being the most absurd question she had ever heard. I left, saw dr. The next day. Had stayed the night in the hospital, and yes, the dr. Did call in some meds for my child's vomiting. The next day, saw dr. Again. I was not going to bring anything up about the previous day. Dr. Saw my child again... Starts the "exam" off by saying that she had to get some things said, and was quite determined to say her point of view ( by the way, I was not interested) after she had her say about how my child could not go home soon, etc.etc. she closed , and went on with the exam. I then told her that she had her time to speak,… now it was my turn ( her obvious superior ego did not even ask if I had something to say) I stated my beliefs, and she ( shockingly) said'" Are you saying I was rude?" I said yes. Well, you'd of thought that I said that she was the worst dr. ever. Then she again starts talking about my child's dx., treatment, etc. and stops. Says, " I just can't get past the fact that you called me rude! No one has ever said that to me in 19 years!" ( Well duh, she asked me...sorry if i offended thee ) i ask her to just move forward, i.e. " this is today, that was yesterday..." to no avail...So...we're off, she wants to call a witness! ( I'm still just sitting there) then she actually goes to the phone to get a mediator..I do a little dance in front of her ...she accuses me of " blocking her" by this time the whole scene is comical...but I'm apparently the only one seeing the humor..she mumbles that something is wrong with me...anyway...my child did go home when we thought she would( as predicted by Dr. Alexander "Sam" Soutter) Dr. Askew threw her partner, Dr. Soutter under the bus by saying, Dr. Soutter is WRONG! But he was RIGHT! Be aware that dealing with those that 'raise their hand' so to speak, and object to the way they are being spoken to, may suffer her wrath. She probably intimidated the other parents, that's why no one has spoken up earlier. Was surprised she was only 56. Looks much older. Should be wiser.

Poor skills,poor knowledge. Bloody lesson learned.

Dr. Askew performed a VATs surgery on me when I was 17, just before I turned 18. Ever since the operation I have experienced constant chronic pain in my chest, where even a light touch from clothing is experienced as pain. When I tried to schedule an appointment with Dr. Askew to find out what could have happened and what could be done, all I was told by the office staff was she could not meet with me because I am now over 18. I said I would like to speak with her on the phone, I was told that she was too busy. All I was given was the name of a doctor whose office told me I would not be met with until I had an MRI done. Very nice, thanks a lot.
